Upload your own 7 Days to Die save to your server: find the save location on your PC, zip the world folder, upload and extract it, then match serverconfig.xml to your world.
Uploading a save replaces what your players see. Want to keep the current world? Back up your server first.
1. Before you upload your 7 Days to Die save: stop the server
- Log in to the control panel.
- Stop the server: press STOP. Before making any changes to your server's save data, it's good practice to stop the 7 Days to Die server to prevent any conflicts or data corruption.
2. 7 Days to Die save location: locate and upload your world data
On your local computer, navigate to the folder where your 7 Days to Die saved games are stored. The default location for single-player saves is the Saves folder. Every world is saved in its own folder on your PC. On Windows it can usually be found at:
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\7DaysToDie\Saves\<NAMEOFWORLD>
- Compress the
<NAMEOFWORLD>folder into a zip file. - Upload the zip file to
\Saved\Saves\on the server. - Once it's finished uploading, right-click the zip file and click Extract.
- The zip file can then be deleted.
Upload with the File Manager in the game panel, or over SFTP for big saves: see How to connect to your server via SFTP.
3. If it is an RWG world
If it's a randomly generated (RWG) world, you also need to upload the world folder. This can usually be found at:
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\7DaysToDie\GeneratedWorlds\<NAMEOFWORLD>
- Compress the
<NAMEOFWORLD>folder into a zip file. - Upload the zip file to
\Saved\GeneratedWorlds\on the server. - Once it's finished uploading, right-click the zip file and click Extract.
- The zip file can then be deleted.
4. Use the config editor to adjust your settings
- Using the Config Editor, edit
serverconfig.xmlvia the Configuration Files section of the game panel. - Set the Game World to RWG or Navezgane, and the rest of the Map Settings to match the world you have uploaded (see below).
- Click Save & Exit on
serverconfig.xml, then start the server.
Where to find your world's settings
If you are unsure of the settings, you can find them in the following files:
- Game Name: check the folder name inside
\Saved\Saves\<NAMEOFWORLD>\ - World Gen Seed:
\Saved\GeneratedWorlds\<NAMEOFWORLD>\GenerationInfo.txt, line 2,Original Seed - World Gen Size:
\Saved\GeneratedWorlds\<NAMEOFWORLD>\map_info.xml, line 4,HeightMapSize
The Game Name, World Gen Seed and World Gen Size must match exactly. If one is different, the server creates a new world instead of loading your save.
Save upload questions
Where is the 7 Days to Die save location on my PC?
On Windows, each world is saved in its own folder at C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\7DaysToDie\Saves\<NAMEOFWORLD>. Random gen (RWG) maps are in C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\7DaysToDie\GeneratedWorlds\<NAMEOFWORLD>.
Where do I upload my save on the server?
Upload the zipped save folder to \Saved\Saves\ and, for an RWG world, the zipped world folder to \Saved\GeneratedWorlds\. Extract both zip files, then delete them.
The server started a new world instead of my save. Why?
The map settings in serverconfig.xml don't match your save. Check the Game Name (save folder name), the World Gen Seed (GenerationInfo.txt, line 2) and the World Gen Size (map_info.xml, line 4). Also make sure the server runs the same game version as your save: see How to upgrade or downgrade your server version.
