Install UE4SS on your Palworld dedicated server with the Mod Manager in the game panel, upload mods from NexusMods or any other site, then sync them to your PC with the UE4SS ModPack.

This guide covers installing mods manually from any source outside the Steam Workshop website, on both the server and your computer. For Workshop mods, see How to install Steam Workshop mods on your Palworld server.

Before you install UE4SS on your Palworld dedicated server

Modding Palworld can cause server problems after game updates, and outdated or abandoned mods can corrupt player profiles or world saves. Take a backup before you add mods.

  • Palworld mods are server-side (on the server only), client-side (on the player's computer only) or needed on both. The mod page tells you which.
  • Many mods need the UE4SS mod loader and won't work without it.
  • After a Palworld update, mods can stop working until their authors update them.
  • Use one UE4SS setup: don't mix a UE4SS package from the Steam Workshop with the manual UE4SS install from this guide. Two loaders cause strange crashes.

Get the mod downloads

This guide uses Manual downloads from external sources. Download mods from sites such as NexusMods (Palworld). On each mod page, read the Requirements, Installation and Multiplayer sections so you know where the mod goes. For the loader itself, the UE4SS documentation has everything you need.

Extract each download on your computer and follow the mod author's instructions.

Install UE4SS on the server

  1. Press STOP on your server.
  2. Press Mod Manager in the game panel.
  3. Install UE4SS from the mod loader section.

Upload the mods to your server

  1. Press File Manager and go to \Pal\Binaries\Win64\ue4ss\Mods\
  2. Click Upload and choose Select Folder.
  3. Upload the mod folder itself. Don't upload ZIP files or extra folders wrapped around the mod.
  4. Press START.

A correctly placed mod looks like \Pal\Binaries\Win64\ue4ss\Mods\ModName\ with the mod's own files (often a Scripts folder) inside.

A Lua mod that doesn't load usually needs enabling: check its folder has an enabled.txt file, or add the mod to mods.txt in the same Mods folder. Some mods are .pak files instead of folders: put those where the mod page says. Uploading lots of files? SFTP is faster.

Install the mods on your computer

For mods that also run on the player's side, the UE4SS ModPack copies UE4SS and your server's mods to your own Palworld install in one go.

  1. Click Download UE4SS ModPack in your game panel and download Download-UE4SS-ModPack.exe.
  2. Run it on your computer.
  3. Install it into your Palworld folder, usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Palworld\
  4. If Windows Defender shows a warning, allow the file.
  5. Start Palworld and join your server.

Tips and warnings

Most Palworld mod issues are caused by missing UE4SS, incorrect mod placement or outdated mods.

  • Install UE4SS before installing any mod that requires it.
  • Only install client-side mods on your computer unless the mod author states otherwise.
  • After Palworld updates, test mods one by one if the server fails to start.
  • Keep backups of your server before installing new mods.

Update mods

  • Download the new version of the mod and upload it over the old folder, with the server stopped.
  • Run the UE4SS ModPack again to sync the updated mods to your computer.
  • If a Palworld update breaks a mod, wait for the mod author to release a fix.
  • Steam Workshop mods update through the game panel instead: see the Workshop mods guide.

Remove mods

  1. Press STOP.
  2. Open File Manager and go to \Pal\Binaries\Win64\ue4ss\Mods\
  3. Delete the folder of the mod you want to remove.
  4. Press START and test.

Manual installation checklist (advanced)

  1. Install UE4SS using Mod Manager.
  2. Upload mods to the UE4SS Mods folder: \Pal\Binaries\Win64\ue4ss\Mods\
  3. Confirm the folder structure matches the mod author's instructions.
  4. Install client-side mods on your computer if required.

Questions and troubleshooting

Does UE4SS work on a Palworld dedicated server?

Yes. Install UE4SS on your Palworld dedicated server with the Mod Manager in the GTX game panel, then upload your mods to \Pal\Binaries\Win64\ue4ss\Mods\. Server-side mods then load every time the server starts.

Why don't my mods work on the server?

Most problems come from three things: UE4SS isn't installed, the mod sits in the wrong folder (or inside an extra folder), or the mod is outdated after a Palworld update. Install UE4SS first, check the folder structure matches the mod author's instructions, and make sure the mod supports your game version.

The server won't start after adding a mod. What now?

Remove the last mod you added and start the server again. After a Palworld update, test your mods one by one to find the one that fails. The Log Viewer often shows which mod caused the error.

Do my players need the mods too?

Only for client-side mods or mods marked as needed on both sides. Server-side mods work without players installing anything. Install client-side mods on your computer only, unless the mod author says otherwise.
