Install ASKA mods on your dedicated server with BepInEx: use our Thunderstore.io automatic installer in the GTX game panel, or upload mods from NexusMods and other sites by hand over FTP.

ASKA mods: read before installing any mods

Important warning! Read before installing any mods. These server modding best practices save you a lot of trouble.

  • Always try to install 1 mod, configure it, test it, and once it works, move to the next mod. Installing 30 or 40 or more mods at the same time most times just causes problems: if 1 of the mods is outdated or broken or needs dependencies to run, it breaks all other mods, nothing works and it is much harder to find the problem mod.
  • Always read the mod instructions or the installation tutorial included. Some mods need extra steps to work.
  • Always read the mod description and warnings. Some mods need other mods as dependencies to work.
  • Always try to understand if the mod is still updated and working. Some mods are outdated and don't work anymore. Mods that haven't had an update for a long time have a higher chance of not working correctly.
  • If you use the Thunderstore.io automatic installer, DO NOT INSTALL BepInEx as a mod. It is not a mod, it is a plugin loader and is installed from the Mod Manager button. Installing it as a mod will break your ASKA server.

A - Install mods with our Thunderstore.io automatic installer

In this example we use the NoCostBuildingRepair, DurabilityMultiplier and ExpandedBuildingStorage mods:

  1. Press STOP to stop your server.
  2. Go to the Mod Manager button and install BepInEx from the Frameworks category.
  3. Go to the Configuration Files button and edit the ASKA.mods file with the Text Editor option.
  4. Add the end of each mod's link, one per line, starting after the /p/ package part. In this example: blacks7ar/NoCostBuildingRepair/, blacks7ar/DurabilityMultiplier/ and blacks7ar/ExpandedBuildingStorage/. Write them exactly like that or they will not work:
    blacks7ar/NoCostBuildingRepair/
    blacks7ar/DurabilityMultiplier/
    blacks7ar/ExpandedBuildingStorage/
  5. Press the ThunderStore.io Mods button and wait for the mods to install.
  6. Start your server to generate all the configuration files. You find them in the BepInEx\config\ folder.

Mod installation side note: some plugins come with their configuration files inside the plugin folder. Find those in BepInEx\plugins\PLUGINNAME.

B - Install mods manually from other sources

In this example we use the ExtendedRoadPlan mod from NexusMods: https://www.nexusmods.com/aska/mods/47

  1. Find the mod you want on ThunderStore.io, NexusMods.com or any other source (in this example NexusMods.com), download it to your computer and unzip it.
  2. Connect to your server FTP with this guide: How to connect to your server FTP.
  3. In your server FTP, navigate to \BepInEx\plugins\ and upload the folder that contains the plugin.dll file.
  4. Start your server to generate the plugin configuration file. You find it in the \BepInEx\config\ folder.

Mod installation side notes:

  • Some mods contain more than the plugin.dll file. All files need to be uploaded.
  • Some mods have the plugin.dll and other files inside subfolders when you unzip them (a folder inside a folder inside another folder). Always upload just the folder that contains the files.
  • Some plugins have no folder at all: when you unzip them, the files are loose. Upload those files directly to the \BepInEx\plugins\ folder, or create a folder with the name of the plugin, put the files inside and upload that folder for better organisation.
  • Some plugins come with their configuration files in the zip file. Configure the plugin using those configuration files.

Questions

How do I install ASKA mods on my server?

Stop the server and install BepInEx from the Mod Manager. For Thunderstore.io mods, add each mod as author/ModName/ on its own line in ASKA.mods and press ThunderStore.io Mods. For mods from other sites, upload the mod folder to \BepInEx\plugins\ over FTP. Then start the server.

Can I use ASKA mods from NexusMods?

Yes. Download and unzip the mod, then upload the folder that contains plugin.dll to \BepInEx\plugins\ over FTP. BepInEx must be installed from the Mod Manager first.

My ASKA server broke after adding mods. What now?

Check that BepInEx was installed from the Mod Manager and not as a mod. Then remove mods and add them back one at a time, testing after each one, to find the mod that is outdated, broken or missing a dependency.
