Change your Valheim dedicated server password in a minute: stop the server, edit Start.bat in Configuration Files, type the new password, save and start the server again.
Your friends need the server password every time they join, so pick one that's easy to share but hard to guess. You can change the server name in the same place.
Valheim dedicated server password rules
WARNING! The password needs to have at least 5 characters and only A to Z and 1 to 0 characters.
Valheim also refuses a password that appears in your server name. The editor reminds you that the password can't be the same as the world name either.
Change the server password
- Stop your server: press STOP in the game panel.
- Go to the Configuration Files button and edit the
Start.batfile. - Change your server password in the Server password field, and the server name if you desire, then press Save.
- Start your server: press START.
The new password shows under Connection Password on your server's main page in the panel. Share it with your players.
Remove the password
WARNING! If you want to remove the server password, a mod like Valheim Plus or a Password Remover mod is required. After the mod is installed, you can enable the Disable password option under the Advanced Settings section inside the Start.bat file.

How do I change my Valheim dedicated server password?
Stop the server, open Configuration Files, edit Start.bat, type the new password in the Server password field and press Save. Then start the server. Use at least 5 characters, letters and numbers only.
Why won't my Valheim server start after I changed the password?
The password is probably too short or not allowed. It needs at least 5 characters, only A to Z and 0 to 9, and it can't appear in your server name or be the same as the world name. Pick another password, save and start again.
Can I run my Valheim server without a password?
Not in the vanilla game. You need a mod like Valheim Plus or a Password Remover mod. Once it's installed, enable Disable password under Advanced Settings in Start.bat.
