Install Medieval Engineers mods on your dedicated server: copy each mod's Steam Workshop ID into the Mods section of your world's Sandbox.sbc file, keep IgnoreLastSession on false and start the server.
Medieval Engineers servers load mods from the world itself. Every world has a Sandbox.sbc file with a <Mods> section, and each mod you add there needs only one thing: the number from its Steam Workshop page.
How to install Medieval Engineers mods on your server
- Stop your server from the game panel.
- Find a mod that you want on the Steam Workshop, for example https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1289910734 (Tavern Mod).
- Copy the number at the end of the link. For the example above it would be
1289910734. This number is the mod's Workshop ID. - Open your world's
sandbox.sbcfile (in the world's save folder, through the File Manager or SFTP) and find<Mods. - On a world without mods it should look like this:
<Mods /> - Change it so that it looks like this, with your own Workshop ID in both places:
<Mods> <Mod> <Name>45454565464.sbm</Name> <PublishedFileId>45454565464</PublishedFileId> </Mod> </Mods> - Make sure inside the file
MedievalEngineers-Dedicated.cfgyou have this setting set asfalse, or the server will generate a new world on the restart and will reset the mods:<IgnoreLastSession>false</IgnoreLastSession> - Start the server.
Edit Sandbox.sbc only while the server is stopped. A running server writes the file back when it saves, and your new mod lines are lost.
Add more than one mod
For more than 1 mod, add one <Mod> block per mod inside the same <Mods> section. Replace [number from step 3] with each mod's Workshop ID, minus the square brackets. The <Name> is the ID followed by .sbm, and <PublishedFileId> is the same ID on its own:
<Mods>
<Mod>
<Name>[number from step 3].sbm</Name>
<PublishedFileId>[number from step 3]</PublishedFileId>
</Mod>
<Mod>
<Name>[number from step 3].sbm</Name>
<PublishedFileId>[number from step 3]</PublishedFileId>
</Mod>
</Mods>
If you have done it correctly the mods will load up, and your Sandbox.sbc file should look something like this:
<Mods>
<Mod>
<Name>346536434.sbm</Name>
<PublishedFileId>346536434</PublishedFileId>
</Mod>
<Mod>
<Name>45745374.sbm</Name>
<PublishedFileId>45745374</PublishedFileId>
</Mod>
<Mod>
<Name>4564874336.sbm</Name>
<PublishedFileId>4564874336</PublishedFileId>
</Mod>
</Mods>
Back up your world before you add a batch of mods, and add a few at a time. If the world stops loading, you know which mod to remove. Every opening tag needs its closing tag: one missing </Mod> breaks the whole file.
Medieval Engineers mod questions
How do I add Medieval Engineers mods to my dedicated server?
Stop the server, copy the number at the end of the mod's Steam Workshop link, and add a Mod block with that number to the Mods section of your world's Sandbox.sbc file: Name is the number followed by .sbm, PublishedFileId is the number on its own. Make sure IgnoreLastSession is false in MedievalEngineers-Dedicated.cfg, then start the server.
Why did my Medieval Engineers mods disappear after a restart?
If IgnoreLastSession is not set to false in MedievalEngineers-Dedicated.cfg, the server generates a new world on the restart and the mods are reset. Mods also get lost if you edit Sandbox.sbc while the server is running, because the server writes the file back when it saves.
Where do I find a mod's Workshop ID?
Open the mod on the Steam Workshop. The ID is the number at the end of the page link, after ?id=. For example, the ID of https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1289910734 is 1289910734.
