Install any mod-pack on your Minecraft server: download the pack's server files, zip and upload them, extract them in File Manager, then select the pack's jar file and Java version.
It is recommended to reinstall your server first via the MORE button before installing any new mod pack, unless it's just an update for the pack you already have installed. See How to reinstall your server back to default.
Install a mod-pack on your Minecraft server
- Download the server files for the mod pack you want to your PC.
- Run the bat file on your PC to make sure any files download if needed, as some packs do.
- Pack all files into a zip file except the bat file. Don't zip up any exe or bat files.
- Upload the zip file to the main directory via File Manager or an FTP client, then extract it via File Manager.
- Check the properties file in Configuration Files and update the IP\port if needed.
- Confirm the eula file is set to
truein Configuration Files. - Re-save
start.batin the Config Editor with the jar file from the pack selected, and select Java 8. - Start your server.
Which Java version does the pack need?
(Most mod packs will only work with Java 8 unless they are updated to work with Java 17.) That holds for packs built on older Minecraft versions. Packs for newer Minecraft versions need a newer Java:
- Minecraft 1.18 to 1.20.4 needs Java 17 or later.
- Minecraft 1.20.5 and newer needs Java 21 or later.
Check the Minecraft version on the pack's download page and select the matching Java version when you re-save start.bat. If the server stops right after starting, a wrong Java version is a common cause.
Questions
How do I install a mod-pack on my Minecraft server?
Download the pack's server files, run its bat file on your PC once, zip everything except bat and exe files, upload and extract the zip in the server's main directory, check the properties and eula files, then re-save start.bat with the pack's jar file and the right Java version selected.
Why shouldn't I upload the bat or exe files?
The bat and exe files are for starting the pack on your own PC. On your GTX server, the panel starts the pack from start.bat with the jar file you select, so leave them out of the zip.
Do I need to reinstall the server before a new mod-pack?
It is recommended: reinstall via the MORE button first, so files from the old pack don't clash with the new one. If you are only updating the pack you already run, you don't need to reinstall.
