Set an Enshrouded server password in enshrouded_server.json: give the Admin, Friend and Guest roles each their own password, and the password a player types when joining decides their role.
Set your Enshrouded server password
- Press STOP on your server, so your changes are not overwritten while you edit.
- Navigate to Configuration Files in the game panel.
- Click the Text Editor option on
enshrouded_server.json. - Find the
"userGroups"section and add passwords for the Admin, Friend and Guest roles. They cannot be the same. See the example below. - Save the file and press START.

Replace putpasshere1, putpasshere2 and putpasshere3 with your own passwords. The other lines set what each role can do.

}The last } closes the whole file, as "userGroups" is the last section. Keep every comma, bracket and quote in place: one missing character stops the file from loading.
What each role can do in this example
- Admin - can kick and ban (
canKickBan), access inventories, edit and extend bases. - Friend - can access inventories, edit and extend bases, but not kick or ban.
- Guest - can join and play, but cannot kick or ban, access inventories, or edit or extend bases.
Give the Admin password only to people you trust. Share the Friend or Guest password with everyone else.

How do I set an Enshrouded dedicated server password?
Stop the server, open Configuration Files in the game panel and click Text Editor on enshrouded_server.json. In the "userGroups" section, set a "password" for the Admin, Friend and Guest roles, save and start the server.
Can two roles use the same password?
No. The passwords for admin, friend and guest roles cannot be the same, because the password a player enters decides which role they get.
