Your Valheim server save is backed up automatically: the server backs up daily, on every restart, and keeps the last 3 days. Need an extra copy? Make a manual backup in the Backup Manager.

Automatic Valheim server save backups

Valheim automatically backs up daily, on every restart, and saves the last 3 days. You don't need to worry about automatic backups, but you can also do a manual backup from inside the Backup Manager button if needed.

Valheim itself also saves the world as you play: by default every 30 minutes, and when players sleep.

Make a manual backup

A manual backup is a good idea before big changes, such as installing mods, changing the world modifiers or changing the server version.

  1. Log in to the game panel and open your Valheim server.
  2. Press STOP, so no one changes the world during the backup.
  3. Press the Backup Manager button and make your manual backup.
  4. Press START.
