Set up automatic server backups and restarts on your Terraria game server with one Scheduled Backup and Restart task in the GTX game panel. Pick the time once and the server backs up and restarts itself every 12 hours, or as often as you like.
How to set up automatic server backups and restarts
- Log in to the game panel, open your server and go to the Scheduled Tasks tab in your control panel.
- Create a new scheduled task and select the Scheduled Backup and Restart option.
- Give it a name of your choice, 12 Hour Restart for example.
- Select the date/hour you want the next backup and restart to happen (see server time below).
- Select Recur Every 1 Days.
- Select the Repeat task option.
- Select Repeat Every 12 hours.
- Select For 24 Hours.
- Save the task.
In this example the task will back up and restart your server every 12 hours. If you want any other number of hours, just change Repeat Every 12 hours to any number of hours of your choice.
Server time vs your local time
You can view the current server hour when you create the task. The hour shown in the hour field is the current server hour plus a 10 minute margin. Compare that hour with your local hour to work out the difference, then set the next hour you want your server to be backed up and restarted.
Example: the task opens with 14:10 filled in and it's 15:00 where you are. The server is 1 hour behind you, so for a backup and restart at 06:00 your time, enter 05:00.

How do I set up automatic server backups on my Terraria server?
In the game panel, open Scheduled Tasks, create a new task with the Scheduled Backup and Restart option, set Recur Every to 1 Days, tick Repeat task, set Repeat Every to 12 hours and For to 24 Hours, then save. The server is backed up and restarted every 12 hours.
The backup and restart didn't happen at the time I expected. Why?
Almost always a time zone difference. Scheduled Tasks run on the server's clock. Open the task, compare its time with the server hour as explained in server time above, and adjust it.
