Set up automatic backups for your game server with a Scheduled Backup task in the GTX game panel. In a few minutes your server backs itself up every 12 hours, or as often as you like.
Each backup briefly stops the server, saves a copy and starts it again, so a regular backup task doubles as a restart schedule.
How to set up automatic game server backups
- Log in to the game panel and go to the Scheduled Tasks tab (Schedule Tasks) of your server.
- Create a new scheduled task and select the Scheduled Backup option.
- Give it a name of your choice, for example 12 Hours Backup.
- Select the date/hour you want the next backup to happen (see server time below).
- Select Recur Every 1 Days.
- Select the Repeat task option.
- Select Repeat Every 12 hours.
- Select For 24 Hours.
- Save the task (see server downtime below).
In this example your server is backed up every 12 hours. Want a different interval? Just change Repeat Every 12 hours to any number of hours of your choice.
Server time vs your local time
You can see the current server hour when you create the task. The hour already filled in is the current server hour + 10 minutes margin. Compare that hour with your local hour, then set the next hour you want your server to be backed up (and so restarted).
Example: the task opens with 14:10 filled in and it's 15:00 where you are. The server is 1 hour behind you, so for a backup at 06:00 your time, enter 05:00.
Your server stops during each backup
The backup task will stop your server to perform the backup and then start it back automatically. Keep that in mind when you pick the time: choose a quiet hour so players aren't kicked mid-game.
Because the server is stopped and started again after the task, you might also want to use this task as your server restart. One task gives you a fresh backup and a clean restart.

How do I set up automatic backups for my game server?
In the game panel open Scheduled Tasks, create a Scheduled Backup task, pick the time of the next backup, set Recur Every to 1 Days, tick Repeat task, set Repeat Every to 12 hours and For to 24 Hours, then save the task.
Will my server go offline during an automatic backup?
Yes, briefly. The backup task stops your server, makes the backup and then starts the server again automatically.
How long are my backups kept?
Backups are kept for up to 6 months. To keep a copy on your own PC as well, download it from the game panel.
My backup didn't run at the time I expected. Why?
Almost always a time zone difference. The task runs on the server's clock, so compare the time filled in when you create a task (server hour + 10 minutes) with your own clock and adjust the start time.
