The DayZ XML Validator in your game panel checks your XML files for you: stop the server, pick the file, press Execute and it shows the line and tag of any error.
One missing bracket or quote in an XML file such as types.xml can stop the server from loading the file or the server from starting. Check every XML file you edit before you start the server again.
How to use the DayZ XML Validator
The XML Validator button is a game panel tool for DayZ servers. If your panel has no such button, use one of the other options below.
- Log in to the game panel and stop your server.
- Press the XML Validator button on your control panel.
- Select the XML file you want to validate and press Execute.
- Check the error message. It gives you the line where the error is located and the tag of the error.
- Fix the error in the file, save it and run the validator again until no errors are shown. Then start your server.
Other ways to check an XML file
- You can use Notepad++ on your computer to count the lines: it shows line numbers, so you can jump straight to the line the validator reports.
- You can also use an external Online XML Validator from Google to validate your XML files. Search for "online XML validator", paste the file's contents and check the result.
Download a copy of the file before you make big changes. If something goes wrong, you can upload the working copy again.

Where is the DayZ XML Validator?
It is a button in the game panel of your DayZ server. Stop the server, press XML Validator, select the XML file and press Execute. The result shows the line and tag of any error.
The validator shows an error line. How do I find it?
Open the file in Notepad++ or another editor with line numbers and go to the reported line. Look for a missing closing tag, a missing quote or a missing / in a self-closing tag on that line or the line just before it.
Should I stop the server before validating?
Yes. Stop the server first, validate and fix the file, then start the server so it loads the corrected file.
