The DayZ Esseker map is no longer developed and its mission files are outdated. Here is what that means for your server, plus the old install steps if you want to update Esseker yourself.

Esseker map development got abandoned. The existing mission files for it are outdated. You can try to update them yourself, or join the Esseker community's Discord to find out if anyone is willing to share an updated version.

Can you still run the DayZ Esseker map?

Only with work on your side. The Esseker Workshop map is still there, but the mission files that go with it no longer match current DayZ, so a server set up with them may not start or run properly. You have three options:

  • Update the mission yourself: bring the Esseker mission files in line with the current DayZ version, then follow the old steps below.
  • Ask the community: join the Esseker Discord and ask if anyone is willing to share an updated version of the mission files.
  • Pick a maintained map: community maps such as Deer Isle, Namalsk or Banov install from the Mod Manager with up-to-date mission files.

Old Esseker install steps (outdated)

These are the steps we used when the Esseker mission files were current. They only work once you have an updated version of the mission files.

WARNING - READ BEFORE INSTALL

Always install Esseker first and test the server before adding any other mods. If you already have other mods installed and the server doesn't work, remove all mods and install Esseker first, test, then install the other mods one by one. Also be aware that some other mods might not be compatible with Esseker.

  1. Press STOP to stop your server.
  2. Click the Steam Workshop (blue) button, then search for and install the following mod:
    1. Esseker
  3. Find an updated version of the Esseker mission files and upload them to the \mpmissions\ folder on your server, using the File Manager or FTP.
  4. Press the Configuration Files button and edit the Config.cfg file with the EASY EDITOR option (the Config Editor). Scroll down to the Mission Template field, select dayzOffline.Esseker and press SAVE.
  5. Press START to start your server.

Take a backup before you try it, so you can go back if the outdated mission doesn't load: see How to back up your game server. If the server doesn't come online, check the start-up in the Web Console and the logs in the Log Viewer.

Esseker questions

Can I install the DayZ Esseker map on my server?

Only if you have updated mission files. Esseker map development got abandoned and the existing mission files are outdated. With an updated version, install the Esseker Workshop mod, upload the mission to \mpmissions\, select dayzOffline.Esseker as the Mission Template in Config.cfg and start the server.

Where can I get updated Esseker mission files?

We don't have an updated version. You can try to update the files yourself, or join the Esseker community's Discord and ask if anyone is willing to share one.

Which DayZ map can I use instead of Esseker?

Community maps such as Deer Isle, Namalsk and Banov install in one click from the Mod Manager in your game panel, with mission files that are kept up to date. Start from a clean server and add your other mods one by one afterwards.
