Quick answer

7 Days to Die has fewer confirmed easter eggs than most lists claim. The ones we can stand behind are the developers' own jokes in the V3.x release notes (including trader doors that open when you honk your vehicle's horn) and the long-running Madmole headstone in the cemetery points of interest (POIs). Everything else below is clearly marked as a player report, because we couldn't confirm it from an official source.

Easter eggs and secrets confirmed by The Fun Pimps

Trader doors open with your vehicle's horn (V3.2.0)

The V3.2.0 release notes (26 August 2026) contain a section headed "HONK HONK!!!" and a feature to match: trader doors can now be opened with your vehicle's horn. The notes add that all outer doors react to the horn, but not every door will fit your vehicle. If you drive up to a trader compound, a quick honk replaces the walk to the door.

The Henpocalypse jokes (V3.1.0)

The V3.1.0 "Henpocalypse" notes (27 July 2026) are written with a sense of humour. They describe chicken farming as harder than it sounds because you first have to sneak up on the fowl, they add a "Chicken Stress" event described as being there for flavour, and they introduce chicken recipes with names such as Chicken Nuggets, Chicken Wings, Ash Chicken Stew and Roadrunner Chicken Jerky. These aren't hidden, but they are the kind of detail the team slips in for players who read the patch notes.

A long-standing one: the Madmole headstone

Players have reported for years that the graveyard POIs contain a headstone with the name Madmole, the game's lead developer. Several players in a Steam discussion thread confirm it ("They do indeed"), and another thread says the same POI has been in the game since at least Alpha 10. We haven't seen a developer statement about it, so treat it as a player-confirmed tribute rather than an official one. If you want to check, explore the cemetery POIs in your own world and read the headstones.

Reported by players, not confirmed

These come up in community threads, each from a single player and without a reply from the developers. They may have changed between versions, so go and look rather than take our word for it:

  • A secret passage into Trader Joel's bedroom.
  • "TFP" (The Fun Pimps) printed on the hydro meters players find in the world.
  • A craftable "Thick 44" flag that players hope stays in the game.
  • Business names that might nod to the team, such as Moe's Grocery and the zombie called Moe.

What we took out of this article

The earlier version of this page listed pop-culture references (film and game nods, "hidden" loot spots and special events) that we could not verify against the game or the developers. Some were reported by one player in one version and never confirmed, and some read like guesses. We removed them, because a page about secrets is no use if you go looking and nothing is there.

How to find secrets in your own world

  • Read the patch notes. The Fun Pimps hide jokes in them, like the horn section above. The news page on the official site lists every release.
  • Explore POIs slowly. Signs, notes, names on doors and the layout of a building are where designers leave winks. Cemeteries, trader compounds and small shops are good places to start.
  • Use a world you control. On a private server you can wander without a horde clock and without strangers raiding your base. Our 7 Days to Die server hosting gives you a world on your own settings, and the Navezgane map guide helps if you play the hand-made map.
  • Share what you find. If you spot something in the current version, post a screenshot with the POI name and the game version, so others can check it.

7 Days to Die easter eggs FAQ

Are there easter eggs in 7 Days to Die?

Yes, but mostly small ones: jokes in the release notes and in item and recipe names, plus a handful of long-standing details in POIs.

Is the Madmole grave real?

Players have found it in the cemetery POIs and confirmed it in Steam threads, and a player thread puts it in the game since at least Alpha 10. We found no developer statement about it.

Do easter eggs change between versions?

They can. POIs get reworked and 7 Days to Die has had large updates since 2023, including V3.0, which added more than 60 new POIs, so check any secret on the version you play.

Can mods add easter eggs?

Overhaul mods add their own secrets, but those belong to the mod, not the base game. Treat them separately.
