SCUM Server Hosting: Settings, Loot & Quests
Run the island your way. Tune hundreds of server settings, rewrite loot, traders and economy, write your own quests and decide who gets admin powers, all from files you edit in the browser.
The official SCUM Server files from Gamepires, kept current with Steam Update, so your island always matches the latest game version.
Official ServerPlayer limit, puppets, armed NPCs, animals, vehicles, respawns, damage and more, each setting a single line you can change.
Your RulesChange what spawns where and what traders buy and sell with the server's JSON files, then share them with your community.
Your EconomySince 1.0, server owners can write their own quests in JSON, with Gamepires' own documentation and visual quest tool to help.
Your StoryAdminUsers.ini for admin commands, ServerSettingsAdminUsers.ini for the in-game Server Settings menu, plus ban, whitelist and exclusive lists.
Your CommunityDecide when bases can be raided with RaidTimes.json, so your PvP fights happen when your community is online.
Your RaidsAlready running SCUM on your own PC or with another host? Gamepires says providers may now share your settings and JSON files with you, so bring your config, your loot tables and your island with you. Our 24/7 team can help with the move or handle it for you.
How Many Slots Does My SCUM Server Need?
Pick a slot for every player who will be online at the same time. A SCUM server allows up to 128 players, and every server includes up to 12GB of RAM.
| Slots | Best for | From |
|---|---|---|
| 10 slots | A squad on its own private island | $13.31/mo |
| 20 slotsRecommended | Bigger groups, PvE crews and small PvP servers | $25.34/mo |
| 30 slots | Small communities and clan servers | $36.12/mo |
| 50 slots | Community PvP and PvE servers | $53.87/mo |

+The Complete Guide to SCUM Server Hosting in the USA & Worldwide
Everything you need to know before you rent a SCUM server in the USA or any of GTX Gaming's worldwide datacenters, from joining and ServerSettings.ini to loot, traders and custom quests, admins and commands, moving an existing server, mods and BattlEye, slots, RAM, pricing and locations.
What Is SCUM Server Hosting?
SCUM server hosting is a managed service that runs a SCUM dedicated server on professional hardware in a datacenter, around the clock, so your community can keep looting, building and fighting on the island whether or not you are at your PC. Every GTX Gaming SCUM server includes up to 12GB of RAM, up to 100GB of NVMe storage, daily automatic backups, enterprise DDoS protection and a web control panel, so jobs like changing a setting, editing loot or adding an admin take a few clicks.
People look for it as a SCUM dedicated server, a SCUM game server or simply a SCUM server to rent, and they all mean the same thing: a private, always-on home for your own SCUM server, with your island, your settings and your rules.
What Is SCUM?
SCUM is the hardcore open-world survival game from Gamepires. You are a prisoner on a hostile island, and you loot, craft, hunt, build and fight to stay alive against puppets, armed NPCs, wildlife and other prisoners, with a detailed body and metabolism simulation behind every choice. It left Early Access with its 1.0 release on Steam on 17 June 2025.
- Server files for everyone: with 1.0, Gamepires gave every owner of the game the SCUM Server tool on Steam, and within a week it counted more than 31,000 self-hosted servers.
- A big 1.0: the whole island was reworked, armed NPCs arrived, secret bunkers opened, and server owners gained the power to write their own quests.
- Into the Wild: from May to October 2026, monthly free updates reworked hunting, fishing, cooking and wildlife, ending with the October Update.
- New backing: in May 2026 Gamepires announced it had joined the Splash Damage Group, with Gamepires still fully focused on SCUM.
- Built for communities: PvP, PvE, roleplay and hardcore servers all run on the same server files, shaped by their settings and JSON files.
Why Rent a SCUM Server?
Gamepires gives every owner of the game the SCUM Server tool, so you could run it on a spare Windows machine at home. Most communities rent a SCUM server instead, for reasons that show up within the first week:
- Always online: the server runs 24 hours a day, so your community can play whenever it suits them without waiting for the host.
- Nothing to run at home: no ports to open on your router and no PC left running, and your own PC stays free for playing.
- Room for everyone: from 10 slots for a squad to the full 128 players a SCUM server allows.
- Proper hardware: high-frequency CPUs and NVMe storage in a datacenter, with DDoS protection at the network edge.
- Backups and support: daily automatic backups and a 24/7 support team mean a broken config or a bad wipe is an inconvenience, not the end of your server.
Getting Started & Joining Your SCUM Server
Your server is set up the moment you order. From there, getting your community onto the island typically looks like this:
- Order: choose your slots and your location, and your server is set up instantly.
- Name it: set your server name, password and description in ServerSettings.ini with the Config Editor in Configuration Files, then restart.
- Make yourself admin: add your Steam64ID to AdminUsers.ini for admin commands, and to ServerSettingsAdminUsers.ini for the in-game Server Settings menu.
- Join: start SCUM, open the server browser and search for your server's name.
Your server's address and port are shown in the control panel, and the Web Console shows the server's own output, so you can see straight away when the island has loaded and the server is ready for players.
ServerSettings.ini: Your Server's Rules
Almost everything about how your island plays lives in ServerSettings.ini. In Configuration Files, the Config Editor covers the server name, password, description and banner, and the Text Editor every other line. Every setting starts with scum. and sits in one line, and the settings that matter most include:
- scum.MaxPlayers: the player limit, from 1 to 128, which follows the slot count you order.
- Puppets, NPCs and animals: scum.MaxAllowedPuppets, scum.MaxAllowedNPCs and scum.MaxAllowedAnimals cap how many can exist at once, and scum.ArmedNPCDifficultyLevel sets armed NPCs from 1, the easiest, to 3, the hardest.
- Vehicles: limits for vehicle types, from tractors to the Kinglet Mariner seaplane.
- Respawns and damage: respawn times and cooldowns, and how much damage players, puppets and base building take.
- scum.FullWipe: set it to 1 and the server deletes all player progression on its next start, for a fresh season on the same island.
Players listed in ServerSettingsAdminUsers.ini can also change settings from the in-game Server Settings menu. Take a backup before a big change, and restart the server so it loads the new values.
Loot, Traders & Custom Quests
Beyond ServerSettings.ini, SCUM servers read a set of JSON files that let you reshape the island:
- Loot: change what spawns, where and how often, from weapons to food.
- Economy and traders: EconomyOverride.json sets what traders stock and the prices they pay and charge.
- Custom quests: since 1.0, server owners can write their own quests in JSON. Gamepires published documentation and a visual quest tool on its official Discord to help.
- Notifications: Notifications.json schedules server messages by day and time, and changes to it apply without a restart.
- Raid times: RaidTimes.json sets the hours when bases can be raided.
EconomyOverride.json and RaidTimes.json are in Configuration Files. Upload and edit the other files in the File Manager or over SFTP, keep a copy of every file before you change it, and check the Log Viewer after a restart to see that the server loaded them.
Admins, Commands & Bans
Who can do what on your server is set by a few lists of Steam64IDs in Configuration Files: AdminUsers.ini for admins (and god mode admins), ServerSettingsAdminUsers.ini for the in-game Server Settings menu, BannedUsers.ini for banned players, WhitelistedUsers.ini for a whitelist and ExclusiveUsers.ini for exclusive players. Admin commands are typed in the in-game chat and start with #. A few of the most used:
- #Teleport: move yourself or another player.
- #SpawnItem: spawn an item, for events, rewards or testing.
- #ListSquads and #NumPlayers: see the squads on your server and how many players are online.
- #RestartIn and #RestartAt: schedule a restart with a warning for your players.
- #ScheduleCargoDrop: plan a cargo drop for an event.
Keep the admin list short, and give each admin only the rights they need. Our support team can help if you lock yourself out.
Moving an Existing SCUM Server
Already running SCUM on your own PC or with another host? You do not have to start again. Gamepires says hosts are now allowed to share your settings and JSON files with you, so moving takes a few steps:
- Stop and back up: stop the old server, then make a copy of its save files, ServerSettings.ini, the user lists and your JSON files.
- Upload: copy them to your GTX server with the File Manager, or with SFTP if you prefer a desktop client.
- Check the version: both servers must be on the same SCUM version. After a wipe update, old saves and some settings may not carry over.
- Start: restart the server and check the Web Console and the log.
Our 24/7 support team can handle the whole move for you.
Mods & BattlEye
SCUM does not have official mod support yet. In September 2026 Gamepires said mod support remains part of its longer-term plans but will not arrive in 2026. Until then, ServerSettings.ini, the JSON files and custom quests are how server owners make an island their own. On anti-cheat, Gamepires confirmed that the server files can run with or without BattlEye. BattlEye's server settings are in BEServer_x64.cfg in Configuration Files, and our support team can help if you want to change how your server uses it.
How Much Does SCUM Server Hosting Cost in the USA?
Pricing is simple: you pay for the number of slots, with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 100GB of NVMe storage included on every server:
- 10 slots: from $13.31/mo. A squad on its own private island.
- 20 slots: from $25.34/mo. Bigger groups, PvE crews and small PvP servers.
- 50 slots: from $53.87/mo. Community servers.
- 100 slots: from $76.03/mo. Public servers.
- 128 slots: from $81.10/mo. The most players a SCUM server allows.
Every tier in between is in the full plan list at the top of this page. All plans include instant setup, DDoS protection, daily automatic backups and 24/7 support, with no setup fee and no contract. Billing is monthly by default, with three-month, six-month and yearly cycles available at a discount, and you can change plan or cancel at any time.
How Many Slots and How Much RAM Does a SCUM Server Need?
Choose a slot for every player who will be online at the same time. A SCUM server allows up to 128 players, so 10 slots suits a squad, 20 to 50 slots a PvE crew or community server, and 100 slots or more a public server. On memory, our own 20 slot demo server used about 9.6GB of RAM with the island loaded and nobody online. More players, more puppets, NPCs and vehicles, and heavier loot settings use more. The up to 12GB included with every server is the place to start, the control panel shows live memory use, and you can add memory from 14GB to 32GB at any time.
Locations for SCUM Server Hosting
Gunfights are hard enough without lag, so host close to your players. GTX Gaming runs SCUM server hosting from seven US locations, with New York preselected on this page and Ashburn, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, Los Angeles and Portland covering the rest of the country, plus 11 more locations worldwide: Quebec in Canada; London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Stockholm in Europe; Sydney, Tokyo, Singapore and Mumbai in Asia-Pacific; plus Moscow. Some locations carry a surcharge, shown at checkout. Use the live ping test above to find the lowest-latency location for your community, pick it at checkout, and if you need to move later our support team can migrate your server.
