Abiotic Factor Server Hosting: Settings, Admins & Mods

Abiotic Factor splits its settings in two: the launch line in Start.bat names and passwords your server and sets the player count, and SandboxSettings.ini tunes the difficulty, the day length, enemy spawns, hunger, XP and death penalties. Both are edited in the browser, next to Admin.ini for moderators and a File Manager for mods.

Mods: PAK, UE4SS & mod.io

How Many Slots Does My Abiotic Factor Server Need?

Pick a slot for every scientist who will be online at the same time. Abiotic Factor is designed for 1 to 6 players and the official dedicated server allows up to 24, with a warning above 6, and every plan includes up to 5GB of RAM.

4 slotsA small group of friends escaping the facility together$5.06/mo
12 slotsA Discord group that rotates who is online$12.93/mo
18 slotsTwo full teams sharing one facility$17.11/mo
20 slotsCommunity servers with several squads$17.74/mo
24 slotsThe biggest Abiotic Factor server we offer, the official maximum$19.77/mo

Every tier is in the full plan list above. On memory, our own 8 slot Abiotic Factor demo server used about 770MB of RAM ten minutes after starting a fresh facility with nobody online, peaking at about 860MB while it loaded the world, so the up to 5GB included on every server leaves plenty of room for a full team. Abiotic Factor is built for groups of up to six, and the official server warns above that because balance and performance are not designed for bigger groups, so a busy 24-slot server needs more headroom than a six-player one. Watch live memory use in the control panel and add memory from 8GB to 32GB at any time from your client area.

Thank you Mr. Gibbs

Absolutely loved the friendliness and the quick response time. Even though I felt a little dumb for not realizing the problem myself, it felt twice as good to know that the fix was simple and clear.

FAQ

Abiotic Factor Server Hosting FAQ

Getting Started

How fast is Abiotic Factor server setup?

+
Instantly. Your Abiotic Factor server is installed as soon as payment completes, and your control panel login and connection details arrive within seconds. Set your server name and password in the panel, press START, and your team can find your server in the in-game server browser or join it directly by address.

What is Abiotic Factor server hosting?

+
Abiotic Factor server hosting is a rented, always-online dedicated server for Abiotic Factor, the co-op survival crafting game from Deep Field Games. GTX Gaming runs your GATE Cascade Research Facility in a datacenter 24 hours a day with DDoS protection, backups and a control panel, so your base, your research and your pets are always there and your team can join whenever they like, without anyone hosting from their own PC.

How do I join my Abiotic Factor server?

+
Start Abiotic Factor, open the server browser and search for the server name you set, or use Direct Connect with the address and port shown under Connection Info in your control panel. Enter the server password if you set one. If your server does not show up, check that it is running in the panel, or ask our 24/7 support team.

Can console players join my Abiotic Factor server?

+
Yes. Abiotic Factor lists cross-platform multiplayer on Steam and is also on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and the PC App, and the official dedicated server accepts players from every platform unless you limit it: the PlatformLimited launch option in Start.bat restricts the server to PC, PlayStation or Xbox and disables crossplay. Console and Game Pass saves cannot be moved to a dedicated server, so a mixed-platform group starts a fresh facility on the server.
Server & Sizing

How many players can join my Abiotic Factor server?

+
As many as the slots you order, from 4 to 24. Abiotic Factor is designed for 1 to 6 players, and the official dedicated server accepts up to 24 with a warning above 6, so 4 slots suits a small group, 8 slots a full team of six with room for guests, and 12 or more a community that rotates players. The MaxServerPlayers setting is set to match your slots, and you can change your slot count at any time from your client area.

How much RAM does an Abiotic Factor server need?

+
Our own 8 slot Abiotic Factor demo server used about 770MB of RAM ten minutes after starting a fresh facility with nobody online, peaking at about 860MB while it loaded the world, so the up to 5GB included on every server leaves plenty of room for a full team. A busier server with more players, bigger bases and more pets uses more, so a 24-slot community server needs more headroom than a six-player one. The control panel shows live memory use, and you can add memory from 8GB to 32GB at any time from your client area.

How much does Abiotic Factor server hosting cost in the USA?

+
Abiotic Factor server hosting at GTX Gaming starts at $5.06/mo for 4 slots, $9.13/mo for 8 slots and $12.93/mo for 12 slots, with up to 5GB of RAM and up to 100GB of NVMe storage included. All plans include instant setup, DDoS protection, daily backups and 24/7 support, with no setup fee and no contract.

Which locations can I host an Abiotic Factor server in?

+
19 locations worldwide: New York, Ashburn, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, Los Angeles and Portland in the USA; Quebec in Canada; London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Stockholm and Madrid in Europe; Sydney, Tokyo, Singapore and Mumbai in Asia-Pacific; plus Moscow. Some locations carry a surcharge, shown at checkout. Run the ping test on this page to find your lowest-latency location, then pick it during checkout.
Settings, Admin & Mods

Can I change the settings on my Abiotic Factor server?

+
Yes. Start.bat under Configuration Files holds the launch parameters, SteamServerName, ServerPassword, AdminPassword, MaxServerPlayers and WorldSaveName, in a Config Editor, and SandboxSettings.ini holds the world's rules: GameDifficulty, HardcoreMode, LootRespawnEnabled, the day and night cycle, weather, EnemySpawnRate and the enemy health and damage multipliers, hunger, thirst and fatigue speeds, PlayerXPGainMultiplier, item stack sizes and DeathPenalties, edited with the Text Editor or the Config Editor. Stop the server, change the file, save and start it again: both are read at launch.

How do I become an admin on my Abiotic Factor server?

+
Set an AdminPassword in Start.bat under Configuration Files, restart, and type it in the game to claim admin rights. For a permanent team of moderators, open Admin.ini in the Text Editor and add a Steam ID per line under [Moderators]; the [BannedPlayers] section of the same file keeps troublemakers out after a restart. Keep the admin password to yourself: anyone who has it can change your facility.

Can I install mods on my Abiotic Factor server?

+
Yes. Abiotic Factor has no official mod support yet: Deep Field Games has announced mod.io support with an in-game mod menu and a Mod Editor for Community Update #5. Until then, PAK mods (.pak, .utoc and .ucas files) are uploaded into AbioticFactor/Content/Paks with the File Manager, and UE4SS script mods need the UE4SS loader, installed once from the Mod Manager, with each mod in its own folder under AbioticFactor/Binaries/Win64/ue4ss/Mods. Many mods must also be installed on every player's PC, so read each mod's page, add mods one at a time and keep a backup, as Deep Field Games' own hotfix notes warn that mods cause most crashes after an update. Our help guide walks through both kinds.

Does my Abiotic Factor server update when Deep Field Games patches the game?

+
Yes. Deep Field Games keeps shipping updates and hotfixes, most recently Community Update #4 in July 2026 and the hotfixes that followed it, with Community Update #5 and official mod support announced next. The Steam Update button in your control panel brings your server up to date in one click, and Scheduled Tasks can run the update and a restart on a timer, with a warning to players first.

Can I move my existing Abiotic Factor world to GTX Gaming?

+
Yes, if the world comes from Steam. Stop your new server, upload the world folder from the host's %LocalAppData%\AbioticFactor\Saved\SaveGames folder into AbioticFactor/Saved/SaveGames/Server/Worlds with the File Manager or SFTP, name it Cascade or set WorldSaveName in Start.bat to its name, and start the server. The official docs state that PlayStation 5, Xbox and Windows Game Pass saves are not supported on dedicated servers. Our 24/7 support team can help with the move or handle it for you.

Can I upgrade my Abiotic Factor server later?

+
Yes. Change your slots, add memory from 8GB to 32GB, more storage, CPU priority or a clock boost at any time from your client area, without losing your world.
The Complete Guide

The Complete Guide to Abiotic Factor Server Hosting in the USA & Worldwide

Everything you need to know before you rent an Abiotic Factor server in the USA or any of GTX Gaming's worldwide datacenters, from joining your server and setting up Start.bat to SandboxSettings.ini, admins and moderators, saves, mods, updates, slots, RAM, pricing and locations.

What Is Abiotic Factor Server Hosting?

Abiotic Factor server hosting is a managed service that runs an Abiotic Factor dedicated server on professional hardware in a datacenter, around the clock, so your base in the GATE Cascade Research Facility, your research and your pets are always there whether or not anyone is at their PC. Every GTX Gaming Abiotic Factor server includes up to 5GB of RAM, up to 100GB of NVMe storage, daily automatic backups, enterprise DDoS protection and a web control panel, so jobs like naming your server, changing the difficulty or installing a mod take a few clicks.

People look for it as an Abiotic Factor dedicated server, an Abiotic Factor private server, an Abiotic Factor game server or Abiotic Factor server rental. They all mean the same thing: your own always-on Abiotic Factor server, with your world, your science team and your rules.

What Is Abiotic Factor?

Abiotic Factor is a co-op survival crafting game from Deep Field Games, published by Playstack. You and up to five colleagues are scientists trapped in the GATE Cascade Research Facility when containment fails: paranormal entities break loose, a military crusade moves in and creatures from a dozen realms pour through the portals, and the world's greatest minds have to scavenge office furniture, craft weapons, cook, farm and build a base to survive. It runs on Unreal Engine 5, arrived on Steam in Early Access on 2 May 2024 and reached version 1.0 on 22 July 2025.

  • Co-op survival for 1 to 6: designed around a small team of scientists, with shared research, pets, a tram network and a facility that keeps opening up.
  • Cross-platform play: Steam lists cross-platform multiplayer, and the game is also on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and the PC App, so a dedicated server can host friends on different platforms.
  • Still growing: free Community Updates keep landing, most recently Community Update #4, the Anniversary Update of 13 July 2026, with Community Update #5 bringing official mod support through mod.io and the Entropic Break expansion now planned for the first quarter of 2027.
  • A free dedicated server: Deep Field Games publishes the Abiotic Factor Dedicated Server as a Steam tool with its own official docs, and that is exactly what runs on your GTX server.

Why Rent Your Own Abiotic Factor Server?

Abiotic Factor is a game you play in long sessions with the same group, and the facility is only fun when everyone can get into it. Most teams rent rather than host at home, for reasons that show up within the first week:

  • Always online: the server runs 24 hours a day, so a colleague in another time zone can log in alone and nobody waits for the host to get home.
  • Nothing to run at home: no ports to forward on your router, no second copy of the game eating the host's CPU, which Deep Field Games notes is the heaviest seat in a multiplayer session.
  • Room for everyone: from 4 slots for a small group to 24 for a community server, the official maximum, with the full six-player team covered from 8 slots.
  • Proper hardware: high-frequency CPUs and NVMe storage in a datacenter, with DDoS protection at the network edge.
  • Backups and support: daily automatic backups and a 24/7 support team mean a bad mod or a failed update is an inconvenience, not the end of your facility.

Getting Started & Joining Your Abiotic Factor Server

Your server is installed the moment you order. From there, getting your team into the facility typically looks like this:

  • Order: choose your slots and your location, and your server is set up instantly.
  • Name it: stop the server, open Start.bat under Configuration Files in the Config Editor, set the server name, a server password for a private facility and your admin password, save and press START.
  • Join: in Abiotic Factor open the server browser and search for your server name, or use Direct Connect with the address and port shown under Connection Info in your panel.
  • Tell your team: the server name and the password, if you set one, are all they need, with their own copy of Abiotic Factor.

The GTX panel also shows your query port and SFTP details on the home page, so you always know where your server lives. If your server does not appear in the browser, check that it is running, or ask our 24/7 team.

Start.bat: Name, Password, Admin & Players

Abiotic Factor's dedicated server takes its identity from launch parameters rather than a config file, and our panel exposes them in Start.bat under Configuration Files with a Config Editor, so you never touch a command line. The parameters most groups set first, as named in the official server docs:

  • SteamServerName: the name of the server as it appears in the server browser.
  • ServerPassword: the password players must enter to join; leave it empty for a public server.
  • AdminPassword: a separate password that lets a player claim admin rights inside the game; keep it to yourself.
  • MaxServerPlayers: the player limit, 1 to 24, set to match the slots you ordered. Above 6 the game shows a warning, because balance and performance are designed for a team of six.
  • WorldSaveName: the folder of the world the server loads, Cascade by default; change it to run a second world or a migrated save.

Stop the server before you edit Start.bat, save it, then start the server again: the parameters are read at launch. The game port and the Steam query port are assigned for you, and PlatformLimited is only needed if you want to limit the server to one platform and switch crossplay off.

SandboxSettings.ini: Difficulty, Enemies & Survival

Everything about how the facility plays lives in SandboxSettings.ini, the same sandbox options a host sees when creating a world, and our panel opens it under Configuration Files with a Text Editor and a Config Editor. The options the official docs list, grouped the way most groups think about them:

  • World: GameDifficulty (1 Normal, 2 Hard, 3 Apocalyptic), HardcoreMode and AllowIronMode, DayNightCycleState and DayNightCycleSpeedMultiplier, WeatherFrequency, LootRespawnEnabled, PowerSocketsOffAtNight, FoodSpoilSpeedMultiplier and StructuralSupportLimit for building.
  • Enemies: EnemySpawnRate, EnemyHealthMultiplier, EnemyPlayerDamageMultiplier, EnemyDeployableDamageMultiplier, DetectionSpeedMultiplier, EnemyAccuracy from Pathetic to Precise, and ApocalypticAbilities.
  • Players: HungerSpeedMultiplier, ThirstSpeedMultiplier and FatigueSpeedMultiplier, PlayerXPGainMultiplier and BonusPerkPoints, ItemStackSizeMultiplier and ItemWeightMultiplier, DeathPenalties from Keep All to Destroy All, DamageToAlliesMultiplier for friendly fire, and AllowRecipeSharing.

A relaxed Friday-night server might turn hunger and thirst down and XP up; a hardcore group raises GameDifficulty and the death penalties instead. If you change the world name in Start.bat, open SandboxSettings.ini in the Config Editor and reset it to the defaults so the new world starts with a clean set of rules.

Admins, Moderators & Bans

Running a shared facility means keeping order, and Abiotic Factor gives you two layers for it. Setting them up takes a minute:

  • AdminPassword: set it in Start.bat, and any player who types it in the game gets admin rights for the session, the quick way to give yourself control of your own server.
  • Moderators: for a permanent team, open Admin.ini under Configuration Files in the Text Editor and add a Steam ID per line under the [Moderators] section, the same file the official docs use when no admin password is set.
  • Bans: Admin.ini also carries your banned players, so a troublemaker stays out after a restart.

Keep the admin password and the moderator list short: anyone with them can change your facility. Our 24/7 support team can help if an admin locks themselves out.

Saves, Worlds & Moving a World

The server keeps every world as a folder under AbioticFactor/Saved/SaveGames/Server/Worlds, and the World Manager in your panel picks which one it loads. Bringing a world over from a friend's PC is a file job:

  • Find it: on the host's PC the worlds live under %LocalAppData%\AbioticFactor\Saved\SaveGames in the host's Steam ID folder, one folder per world.
  • Upload it: stop your server, upload the world folder into AbioticFactor/Saved/SaveGames/Server/Worlds with the File Manager or SFTP.
  • Point at it: rename the folder to Cascade, or set WorldSaveName in Start.bat to its name, then start the server and your base is waiting.

Only Steam saves move: the official docs state that PlayStation 5, Xbox and Windows Game Pass saves are not supported on dedicated servers. Keep a backup before any move, and our 24/7 team can do the transfer for you.

Mods: PAK, UE4SS & mod.io

Deep Field Games has announced official mod support through mod.io, with an in-game mod menu and a free Mod Editor, for Community Update #5. Until it lands, every Abiotic Factor mod is a community download that goes into the server's folders yourself, and there are two kinds:

  • PAK mods: a .pak, .utoc and .ucas set that needs no loader. Stop the server, upload the files into AbioticFactor/Content/Paks with the File Manager and start it again.
  • UE4SS mods: script mods with a Scripts folder that need the UE4SS loader. Install UE4SS once from the Mod Manager, then upload each mod into its own folder under AbioticFactor/Binaries/Win64/ue4ss/Mods and switch it on with an enabled.txt file or a line in mods.txt.
  • Client side too: many mods must also be installed on every player's PC, and a UE4SS mod needs UE4SS on the players' machines as well; read each mod's page.

Mods are the usual cause of crashes and broken saves after a game update, as Deep Field Games' own hotfix notes warn, so add them one at a time and keep a backup from before each one. Our help guide below walks through both kinds step by step.

Updates, Restarts & Backups

Deep Field Games keeps shipping free Community Updates and hotfixes, such as Community Update #4 on 13 July 2026 and the hotfixes that followed it, and the server has to match the players' version. Three panel features keep your server in step without you watching for patches:

  • Steam Update: one button brings your server up to the current build; players on the new version can then join again.
  • Scheduled Tasks: run a restart, an update or a backup on a timer, with a warning message to players first, so nobody loses a session to a surprise restart.
  • Backups: daily automatic backups on every server, plus Backup.bat and the Backups folder in your File Manager and SFTP access for a copy on your own PC.

How Much Does Abiotic Factor Server Hosting Cost in the USA?

Pricing is simple: you pay for the number of slots, with up to 5GB of RAM and up to 100GB of NVMe storage included on every server:

  • 4 slots: from $5.06/mo. A small group of friends escaping the facility together.
  • 8 slots: from $9.13/mo. A full team of six with room for guests.
  • 12 slots: from $12.93/mo. A Discord group that rotates who is online.
  • 20 slots: from $17.74/mo. Community servers with several squads.
  • 24 slots: from $19.77/mo. The biggest Abiotic Factor server we offer, the official maximum.

The 18-slot tier is in the full plan list at the top of this page. All plans include instant setup, DDoS protection, daily automatic backups and 24/7 support, with no setup fee and no contract. Billing is monthly by default, with three-month, six-month and yearly cycles available at a discount, and you can change plan or cancel at any time.

How Many Slots and How Much RAM Does an Abiotic Factor Server Need?

Choose a slot for every scientist who will be online at the same time. Abiotic Factor is designed for 1 to 6 players, so 4 slots suits a small group, 8 slots a full team with a couple of guests, and 12 or more a community that rotates players; the official dedicated server allows up to 24 and warns above 6. On memory, our own 8 slot Abiotic Factor demo server used about 770MB of RAM ten minutes after starting a fresh facility with nobody online, peaking at about 860MB while it loaded the world, so the up to 5GB included on every server leaves plenty of room for a full team. A fuller facility with more players, bases and pets uses more, so a busy 24-slot server needs more headroom than a six-player one. The up to 5GB included with every server is the place to start, the control panel shows live memory use, and you can add memory from 8GB to 32GB at any time.
