What Is Conan Exiles Server Hosting?

What Is Conan Exiles Enhanced?

Conan Exiles is the open-world survival game from Funcom, set in the brutal world of Conan the Barbarian. You are cut down from the corpse tree in the Exiled Lands and have to survive the desert, then build anything from a hut to a city, enslave thralls and break them on the Wheel of Pain, wield dark sorcery, summon the avatars of the gods and siege your rivals' fortresses. It left Early Access and was fully released on Steam on 8 May 2018.

On 5 May 2026 the Steam version became Conan Exiles Enhanced, a free upgrade to Unreal Engine 5 developed by Funcom with Inflexion Games. According to Funcom, it brings:

• A new engine: sharper environments, characters, lighting and effects, a redesigned interface and quality-of-life changes such as crafting from nearby storage.
• One world: the Exiled Lands and the Isle of Siptah are joined, so one server hosts both maps and players travel between them without a restart. The Isle of Siptah still needs its DLC.
• Multiple characters: players can keep several single-player characters on one account.
• Mod support: a refreshed Mod Dev Kit, with mods rebuilt for Enhanced on the Steam Workshop.
• Better server networking: Update 2.2.0 in September 2026 moved the game to Unreal Engine 5.8.2 and Epic's Iris networking, which only sends updates when something changes. Funcom calls it the biggest server performance improvement it has made so far.

The game keeps growing: Legacy of the Giant-Kings, a free four-part story arc, began in July 2026, with Part Two arriving on 6 October 2026.

Getting Started & Joining Your Conan Exiles Server

Your server is set up the moment you order. From there, getting your clan into the Exiled Lands typically looks like this:

• Order: choose your slots, memory and location, and your server is set up instantly.
• Name it: set your server name, a server password if you want it private and an admin password in the Configuration Files.
• Add mods: open the Steam Workshop tool, install the mods you want and restart the server.
• Join: in Conan Exiles, choose Play Online and find your server by its name in the server browser, or use Direct Connect with the IP address and port from your control panel.

Once you are in, log in as admin with your admin password and open the in-game admin panel: from there you can change most server settings while you play, without touching a file.

Steam Workshop Mods on Your Conan Exiles Server

Mods are a big part of Conan Exiles, and the Conan Exiles Steam Workshop is full of them, from small quality-of-life fixes to whole new building sets and roleplay systems. Your GTX control panel has a Steam Workshop tool built in: browse the Workshop by popularity or by collection, press Install, and restart the server. Popular Enhanced mods available this way include:

• Evil's Enhanced Emporium: a large crafting and building mod for Enhanced.
• Thrall Augmenter: more control over your thralls and followers.
• Glyphstones and Waystones Enhanced: fast travel around the map.
• RPGCore: a framework for roleplay and RPG systems.

A few things are worth knowing. Every player needs the same mods as the server to join, so share your mod list or a Workshop collection with your clan. Enhanced needs mods built for Enhanced: older UE4 mods do not load on an Enhanced server, and after a big engine update such as 2.2.0 some mods show as out of date until their authors rebuild them. Server Settings: PvP, PvE, PvE-Conflict, Purge & Rates

When you run your own server you choose the rules. Conan Exiles has three classic server types:

• PvP: players fight each other and raid each other's bases, with siege weapons, explosives and avatars.
• PvE: players cannot hurt each other or each other's buildings, so the world is about building, exploring and fighting the NPCs.
• PvE-Conflict: players can fight each other, but player buildings cannot be damaged by other players.

On top of that you can set raid hours so building damage is only on at set times, harvest and XP rates, crafting speed, thrall conversion speed on the Wheel of Pain, day and night length, clan size limits and whether avatars can be summoned. The purge, the NPC armies that attack player bases, can be switched on or off, made harder or easier and set to happen more or less often. Change the settings in the in-game admin panel or in the server's ServerSettings.ini through Configuration Files, and use the Whitelist Players tool to keep a private server private.

Enhanced (UE5) or Legacy (UE4)? Choosing Your Server Version

Since 5 May 2026 the Steam version of Conan Exiles is Conan Exiles Enhanced, and that is what our main plans run. Funcom kept the old Unreal Engine 4 version available on Steam as Conan Exiles Legacy, a branch players can pick in the game's properties, but it gets no further updates and has no official servers. A player's game version must match the server's version to join, so choose the server your group actually plays:

• Conan Exiles Enhanced (UE5): the right choice for almost every PC group. It is the current version, gets new content such as Legacy of the Giant-Kings, and runs Enhanced Workshop mods.
• Conan Exiles Legacy (UE4): for groups who stayed on the UE4 version, for example to keep a long-running modded world on mods that have not been rebuilt for Enhanced. Order it from the UE4 link under our plans: it has the same slots, RAM options and prices.

Moving an Existing World & Save Transfers

Already playing on your own PC or with another host? Your world lives in a single database file, game.db. Upload it through the File Manager or SFTP, restart, and your characters, bases and thralls carry on. Funcom's Enhanced FAQ adds a few rules for older worlds:

• UE4 to Enhanced: Exiled Lands saves from the UE4 version load in Conan Exiles Enhanced, characters and buildings included.
• Isle of Siptah: the island moved when it was joined to the Exiled Lands, so bases from the old separate Siptah servers do not carry over. Funcom's FAQ explains how to move characters to an Exiled Lands world first, then rebuild on the island.
• No way back: once a world has been converted to Enhanced it cannot go back to UE4, so keep a backup of the original file.
