Quick answer

Minecraft on PS4 and PS5 is Bedrock Edition, and you enter a seed in Create New World, on the Advanced tab, in the World seed box. We don't list seed numbers here on purpose. A seed only gives the same world on the same edition and a compatible version, and we can't test numbers on every PlayStation update, so the safest "best seeds" are the built-in seed templates next to that box. For anything else, check a seed on a seed map before you play it.

Last updated 9 October 2026. Checked against Java Edition 26.3 and Bedrock 26.x.

Which Minecraft do you get on PS4 and PS5?

Both consoles run Bedrock Edition, the same engine as Windows, Xbox, Switch and phones. The old "PlayStation 4 Edition" (the 4J Studios version, last updated at version 1.95) is no longer updated or sold, and the Minecraft Wiki lists Bedrock as the current version on PS4 and on PS5. That matters for seeds, because most seed lists online are written for Java Edition on PC, and Java seeds don't carry over cleanly:

Bedrock (PS4, PS5, Xbox, Switch, Windows, mobile)Java (PC, Mac, Linux)
Where you type the seed Create New World, Advanced tab, World seed Create New World, More World Options, Seed for the World Generator
See the seed of an existing world Edit World screen, Advanced tab, with a copy button The /seed command
Same seed, same world as the other edition? No. Structures, caves and mob spawns generate differently between the editions, so use a seed that was found for the edition you play.

Seeds also break when Mojang changes world generation: after such an update the same number no longer produces the same terrain. A seed that someone posted two years ago may now give a different map, even on Bedrock.

How to enter a seed on PS4 or PS5

  1. Start Minecraft and choose Create New World.
  2. Open the Advanced tab and find the World seed box.
  3. Type or paste the seed. Any string of characters is accepted. Leave it empty and the game picks a random seed.
  4. Check your other settings (game mode, difficulty). Turning on cheats disables achievements for that world, so leave them off if achievements matter to you.
  5. Create the world. The seed can't be changed after the world exists, so make a new world to try another one.

Menus move around a little between updates, so if a tab has a different name on your screen, look for the same World seed label.

The safest seeds: the in-game seed templates

Next to the seed box there is a button that opens the seed templates menu. Mojang ships a set of pre-set seeds there, each picked so the world has something interesting near spawn. Because they are part of your own game version, they are the one list that can't be out of date for your console. Pick one, read what it says it offers, create the world and see for yourself.

How to see the seed of a world you already have

  1. On the Worlds list, open Edit World for the world (the pencil icon next to it).
  2. Open the Advanced tab. The World seed is shown there, with a button to copy it.

The /seed command you see in Java guides is a Java-only command and isn't available in Bedrock. Worlds that live on a Realm don't show their seed either. If you love a world and want to start another with the same terrain, do it on a normal saved world.

How to find and test a seed before you play it

You can't judge a seed from its number. Use a seed map instead, which draws the biomes and structures of a seed without loading the game. Chunkbase's Seed Map supports Bedrock as well as Java:

  1. Open the Seed Map and choose Bedrock as the edition, then the version closest to the one on your console. The version matters, because the features the map shows depend on it.
  2. Paste a seed (from a world you made, a template, or a friend) and look at the map around the centre, which is where you spawn.
  3. Switch on the structure icons you care about and judge the spawn area before you spend time in the world.

What a good survival start usually looks like on the map:

  • A village within a few hundred blocks of spawn. Beds, crops and trading from day one.
  • A varied spawn biome. Trees for wood, plains or a river for food and water, and not a vast ocean if you want to start on land.
  • A ruined portal nearby. A quick way to a Nether portal and a few early chests.
  • Caves and ore. The map can show cave openings, geodes and ore veins, and ancient cities are the big deep-dark prize.
  • Not too many hazards at the doorstep. A pillager outpost or mansion close to spawn is loot for some players and a nightmare for others.

The map is a guide, not a promise. Look in the game before you build anything.

Why this page has no seed list

This page used to list 13 seeds with descriptions of what they spawn. We couldn't confirm any of them. The first three were consecutive numbers described as completely different worlds, and one seed appeared twice with two different descriptions. We removed them rather than send you into a world that doesn't match. If you have a seed you want to share, test it on a Bedrock seed map and in the game, note the Bedrock version, and share it with that information.

Playing the same seed with friends

Entering the same seed on the same edition and version gives you the same terrain, but it is not a shared world: you each have your own copy and your own progress. To play together you have three options:

  • Invite friends to your world. Create the world, then invite people from your friends list. They join while you are online, and the world is saved on your console.
  • Use a Realm. Mojang's subscription server keeps a world available for invited players when you aren't online. Our guide to what you can and can't add to a Realm explains the limits.
  • Use your own server. See the next section, including the PlayStation catch.

Putting a favourite seed on a Bedrock server

A Minecraft Bedrock server lets you pick the seed for the world it generates. That is useful if your group found a seed on a seed map that you all want to play, in a world that stays online around the clock.

The PlayStation catch: console versions of Bedrock can't add a custom server by IP address. According to the Minecraft Wiki, consoles get the featured servers, friends' worlds and LAN games. So a Bedrock server suits friends on Windows, phones and other platforms that can add a server address, while PlayStation players need a Realm or a friend's hosted world. Unofficial DNS workarounds exist, but Mojang doesn't support them and we can't help with them.

Set the seed like this:

  1. Make a backup first if the server already has a world you want to keep (backing up your entire Minecraft server).
  2. Stop the server in the GTX game panel.
  3. Open Files and edit server.properties.
  4. Set level-seed= to your seed. Then set level-name= to a new world name. The seed only applies when a world is generated, and a world that already exists keeps its own seed for good, so a new name makes the server build a fresh world from your seed and leaves the old one untouched.
  5. Start the server and join. Check the result against a seed map for the same Bedrock version before you build anything.

The server should run the same Bedrock version as your players. If players on a newer version can't join, update the server (updating your Minecraft Bedrock server). For everything else about running one, from backups to admin commands, read our Minecraft server guide. Prefer a Java world with mods? Minecraft PS4 seeds FAQ

Do PS4 and PS5 use the same seeds?

Yes. Both run Bedrock Edition, and the seed box works the same way. The seed isn't tied to the console, only to the edition and the world generation version.

Do Java seeds from YouTube work on PS4?

Not reliably. Java and Bedrock generate structures, caves and mob spawns differently, so a Java seed can look quite different on a PlayStation. Use seeds that were found for Bedrock and check them on a Bedrock seed map.

Why does my seed look different from the video?

Almost always a version or edition difference. The video may be Java, or from before a world generation update. Compare the edition and version in the video with yours.

Can I change the seed of an existing world?

No. The seed is stored with the world. Create a new world with the seed you want, and rebuild what you need by hand.

Is there a seed command on PS4?

No. /seed is a Java command. On Bedrock, read the seed from the Edit World screen.

Is Minecraft still supported on PS4?

As of this update the Minecraft Wiki lists both PS4 and PS5 as Bedrock platforms, and we know of no official end-of-support announcement. Check minecraft.net for Mojang's latest word.
