What Is Permafrost Server Hosting?

A Permafrost server is a private server for Permafrost, so a co-op world keeps going on its own machine instead of on a player's PC. This is what GTX Gaming plans to offer for Permafrost: you would rent it by the month, invite your friends, and your world would be there when you log in.

Permafrost launches in Steam Early Access on 9 October 2026. Permafrost servers from GTX Gaming are coming soon, but they are not available to order yet: we will update this page when they are.

What Is Permafrost?

Permafrost is a story-driven survival sandbox from developer SpaceRocket Games, published by Toplitz Productions. It is set on a near-future Earth locked in endless winter after a series of catastrophes, and you play a "Rook": an engineer with the skills to rebuild but little wilderness experience, drawn into the frozen world by a radio signal from a long-lost friend.

The cold is the main enemy. Frostbite, storms and creeping chill shape every trip, so shelter, preparation and timing decide whether you survive. You scavenge, hunt and craft, build a network of shelters, and deal with the factions that control parts of the world. You can play alone or in online co-op with up to three friends. Playing Permafrost Co-op With Friends

Permafrost supports online co-op for up to four players, which is the game's own limit. A private server suits a group like this because the world can stay available while players come and go, and nobody has to leave their PC running for the rest of the group to play.

Every player needs their own copy of Permafrost on Steam. The game is Windows only, and the Steam page lists a 64-bit Windows 10 system with 16GB of RAM as the minimum for the game itself.

These steps make launch day smoother:

• Check your PC: Steam lists Windows 10 (x64), an Intel Core i5 8600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3500, 16GB of RAM, a GTX 1060 6GB or Radeon RX 590 8GB and 30GB of storage as the minimum, and a stronger system as recommended.
• Everyone needs the game: each player in your group needs their own copy on Steam.
• Pick your group: the game is built for up to four players, so decide who is joining before you start.
• Watch this page: we will update it when Permafrost servers are available.
