Empyrion Server Hosting: Scenarios, Settings & Admin Tools
Load a Workshop scenario, set your galaxy's rules in settings.yaml and gameoptions.yaml and run your server with the admin tools Empyrion communities use.
The Workshop Scenario Downloader in your panel installs any Steam Workshop scenario from its Workshop ID, such as Reforged Eden 2. Select it in settings.yaml and a new galaxy is generated with it.
Workshop Scenario DownloaderSet your server name, password, player limit, anti-cheat and blueprint limits in settings.yaml, your copy of the dedicated.yaml server config from Eleon, and the rules of your galaxy in gameoptions.yaml, all through Configuration Files in your browser.
Configuration FilesEmpyrion sets PvP per playfield, so your galaxy can mix safe PvE planets for building with PvP zones for faction warfare. Scenarios come with their own mix.
Your RulesInstall Emp Admin Helper, the popular community admin tool, from the Tools section of the Mod Manager, and manage players, structures and the server from your PC.
Mod ManagerPlayers bring their ships and bases from the Steam Workshop as blueprints, form factions and alliances, and build together across the galaxy.
MultiplayerKeep your server on the latest Empyrion version, save and shut down cleanly before a restart, and roll back with the Backup Manager if anything goes wrong.
Daily BackupsAn Empyrion save is a folder named after the game inside Saves/Games. Stop the server, upload the folder through the File Manager or SFTP, set the same GameName and the same scenario in settings.yaml, and start the server again.

+The Complete Guide to Empyrion Server Hosting in Canada & Worldwide
Everything you need to know before you rent an Empyrion server in Canada or any of GTX Gaming's worldwide datacentres, from joining and server settings to PvE and PvP, Workshop scenarios such as Reforged Eden 2, admin tools, savegames, updates, slots, RAM, pricing and locations.
What Is Empyrion Server Hosting?
Empyrion server hosting is a managed service that runs the Empyrion: Galactic Survival dedicated server on professional hardware in a datacentre, around the clock, so your galaxy keeps going whether or not anyone is online. Every GTX Gaming Empyrion server includes up to 10GB of RAM, up to 100GB of NVMe storage, daily automatic backups, enterprise DDoS protection and a web control panel with a Workshop Scenario Downloader, Configuration Files for every setting and one-click admin tools.
People look for it as an Empyrion dedicated server, an Empyrion game server, an Empyrion private server or simply an Empyrion server to rent, and they all mean the same thing: a home for your own Empyrion server, with your scenario, your rules and only the players you invite.
What Is Empyrion: Galactic Survival?
Empyrion: Galactic Survival is a space sandbox survival adventure from Eleon Game Studios that combines space simulation, construction, survival and first-person shooter elements. You crash-land on a hostile planet and work your way up to the stars:
- Build anything, block by block: capital vessels, small vessels, hover vessels, planetary bases and space stations, or download a community blueprint from the Steam Workshop and make it your own.
- A whole galaxy: fly and warp between planets, moons and star systems, each planet with its own gravity, atmosphere, climate, resources and creatures.
- Voxel terrain: dig, flatten and tunnel anywhere to build a settlement or reach rich ore deposits.
- Survival: food, oxygen, resources and ammo all matter, and not every alien you meet is friendly.
- Multiplayer: team up with friends, form factions and alliances, build safely in PvE areas or fight on PvP planets.
Empyrion entered Early Access on Steam on 5 August 2015 and left it with version 1.0 on 5 August 2020, and Eleon still updates it regularly: version 1.19.5 arrived on 23 September 2026 with more than a hundred new POIs and the first trade lines, and the 1.20 experimental build adds Creative mode instances inside a survival game. The Dark Faction DLC, released on 6 February 2024, adds a darker scenario with new planets, blocks and weapons. Empyrion runs on Windows and is sold on Steam.
An Official Empyrion Dedicated Server Host
Eleon Game Studios lists a small number of companies as Official Dedicated Server Hosts on the dedicated servers page of the official Empyrion website, and GTX Gaming is one of them. It means you rent your Empyrion dedicated server from a host the developer itself points players to, with years of experience running Empyrion galaxies of every size, from a few friends on the default scenario to public servers running Reforged Eden 2.
Why Rent an Empyrion Server?
Anyone who owns Empyrion can run the dedicated server from a spare Windows machine, but most factions rent one instead, for reasons that show up the first time someone wants to fly their capital vessel while the host is asleep:
- Always online: your galaxy runs 24 hours a day, so players on different schedules can mine, build and trade whenever they like.
- Nothing to run at home: no ports to open on your router and no PC left running, and your own PC stays free for playing.
- Room to grow: Empyrion starts a playfield server for every planet or sector in use, so a busy galaxy needs real memory and fast cores. Ours run on high-frequency CPUs with NVMe storage and 10GB of RAM included.
- Scenarios without the hassle: install a Workshop scenario from its ID in the control panel.
- Your rules: set PvE and PvP, difficulty, decay and the rest of your galaxy's rules, and decide who gets admin.
- Backups and support: daily automatic backups, the Backup Manager and a 24/7 support team mean a griefer, a broken scenario or a bad update is an inconvenience, not the end of your galaxy.
Getting Started & Joining Your Empyrion Server
Your server is set up the moment you order. From there, getting your faction into the galaxy typically looks like this:
- Order: choose your slots, memory and location, and your server is set up instantly.
- Name it: set your server name, description and, if you like, a password in settings.yaml through Configuration Files.
- Pick a scenario: keep the default or install a Workshop scenario with the Workshop Scenario Downloader, then select it in settings.yaml before your galaxy is generated.
- Make yourself admin: add your SteamID64 to adminconfig.yaml with Permission 9.
- Join: in Empyrion, choose Multiplayer and find your server in the list, or connect with the IP address and port from your control panel.
Your server's IP address and port are shown at the top of your control panel, ready to copy, and with Srv_Public switched on in settings.yaml your server also appears in the in-game server list under the name you set.
Server Settings, PvE & PvP
Empyrion's server settings live in two files, and on a GTX Gaming server you edit both in your browser through Configuration Files. settings.yaml is your copy of Eleon's dedicated.yaml, the dedicated server config, and holds the server itself:
- Srv_Name, Srv_Description and Srv_Password: the name and description players see in the server list, and an optional password.
- Srv_MaxPlayers: the player limit, set to your slot count.
- Srv_Public: show your server in the in-game server list, or hide it so players join by IP address.
- EACActive: Easy Anti-Cheat, switched on by default.
- MaxAllowedSizeClass and AllowedBlueprints: limit how large the ships and bases players may build from blueprints, or allow only stock blueprints.
- Mode, Seed and CustomScenario: Survival or Creative, the seed that generates your galaxy, and the scenario it runs.
- gameoptions.yaml: the scenario's game options, the rules of the galaxy itself. Some of them only apply to a newly generated galaxy.
PvP in Empyrion is set per playfield, so most scenarios mix safe PvE planets with dangerous PvP zones. Settings in your config files take effect after a restart, and game options that shape the galaxy itself, such as the scenario, only apply when a new galaxy is generated, so give your game a new name when you change them. Our game options guide shows each step.
Workshop Scenarios, Reforged Eden 2 & Blueprints
Scenarios decide what your galaxy looks like: its star systems, planets, factions, POIs and missions. Empyrion comes with Eleon's own scenarios, and the Empyrion Steam Workshop holds many more made by the community, the best known being Reforged Eden 2. Installing one on your server takes a few minutes:
- Find the Workshop ID: it is the number at the end of the scenario's Steam Workshop address.
- Download it: stop your server, open the Workshop Scenario Downloader in your control panel, enter the ID and a name without spaces.
- Select it: choose the scenario in settings.yaml under Configuration Files and give your game a new name, so a fresh galaxy is generated with it.
- Start the server: the new galaxy is generated with your scenario, ready for your players.
Blueprints, the saved designs of ships and bases, are shared on the Workshop too. Players build them in game from their own blueprint library, so a faction can bring its favourite capital vessel to your server. Our Workshop scenario guide walks through the whole install with Reforged Eden 2 as the example.
Admins, Admin Tools & Anti-Cheat
Empyrion has its own permission system, and you manage it in adminconfig.yaml through Configuration Files. Every entry is a player's SteamID64 with a permission level:
- Admin (Permission 9): full control, including every admin command in the game's console.
- Moderator (Permission 6): for trusted players who help keep the peace.
- Game master (Permission 3): for event hosts and builders.
- Bans: the same file holds your ban list, with an optional end date for each ban.
- Emp Admin Helper: a popular community admin tool, installed from the Tools section of the Mod Manager. Our Emp Admin Helper guide shows how to connect and change its default password.
- Telnet: switched on in settings.yaml on every GTX server, so community tools that talk to the server over Telnet can connect with the details in your control panel.
Easy Anti-Cheat is switched on by default (EACActive in settings.yaml), and players turn it on in the game under Options, Misc before they can join an EAC-protected server. If your scenario uses the Dark Faction DLC, set EnableDLC to true: every player who wants to join then needs to own the DLC.
Savegames, Restarts & Keeping Your Server Updated
Already playing with friends or with another host? An Empyrion save is a folder named after the game inside Saves/Games. Stop the server, upload the folder through the File Manager or SFTP, set the same GameName and the same scenario in settings.yaml, and start the server again. Our support team can handle the whole move for you, from copying your files to checking your scenario loads.
Before a restart, save the galaxy first: a plain restart can lose the progress made since the last autosave. Our restart guide shows how to save and shut down cleanly. Press Steam Update in your control panel and your server is brought up to the latest Empyrion version. Players must run the same game version as the server to join, so update when Eleon releases a new version, and take a backup first if you run a Workshop scenario, since some need their own update after a big game update. At the time of writing the current version is 1.19.6, released on 24 September 2026.
How Much Does Empyrion Server Hosting Cost in Canada?
You pay per player slot, from 16 to 100 slots at CA$1.25/mo each, plus any extra memory, with up to 10GB of RAM and up to 100GB of NVMe storage included on every server. Our three recommended builds are:
- Hover Vessel, 16 slots with 10GB RAM: CA$20.00/mo. You and your faction.
- Capital Vessel, 24 slots with 12GB RAM: CA$42.44/mo. Our recommended size for active communities and big scenarios.
- Starbase, 40 slots with 16GB RAM: CA$69.55/mo. Public servers and large factions.
Every slot count from 16 to 100 is available, see the full list under our plans or set your own on the order form. All plans include instant setup, the Workshop Scenario Downloader, DDoS protection, daily automatic backups and 24/7 support, with no setup fee and no contract. Billing is monthly by default, with three-month, six-month and yearly cycles available at a discount, and you can change plan or cancel at any time.
How Many Slots & How Much RAM Does an Empyrion Server Need?
Choose a slot for every player who will be online at the same time. A faction of friends is well served by 16 slots, an active community by 24 to 30, and public servers by 40 or more, up to 100. Memory is the other half. Empyrion runs the main server plus a separate playfield server for every planet or space sector with players in it, so a galaxy where everyone plays on one planet needs far less than one where players are spread across many systems. On our own demo server, an Empyrion server running the default scenario used about 1.7GB of RAM with nobody online. Big scenarios such as Reforged Eden 2 add to it: as a guide we recommend 12GB for 24 players, 16GB for 40 and 32GB for a full 100 slot server. The control panel shows live memory and player graphs, so you can see exactly when your galaxy needs more and upgrade, up to 64GB, without losing anything.
Locations for Empyrion Server Hosting
A low ping makes every dogfight and every landing feel responsive, so host close to your players. GTX Gaming runs Empyrion server hosting from a Canadian datacentre in Quebec plus 18 more locations worldwide: New York, Ashburn, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, Los Angeles and Portland in the USA; London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Stockholm and Madrid in Europe; Sydney, Tokyo, Singapore and Mumbai in Asia-Pacific; plus Moscow. Some locations carry a surcharge, shown at checkout. Use the live ping test above to find the lowest-latency location for your faction, pick it at checkout, and if you need to move later our support team can migrate your server.
Best Empyrion Server Hosting: What to Compare Before You Rent
Most offers to rent an Empyrion server look alike at first glance. These are the things that decide how your galaxy actually plays once your faction moves in:
- Memory, not just slots: every planet or sector in use runs its own playfield server, so check how much RAM a plan really includes. Every GTX Gaming Empyrion server includes up to 10GB, and you can upgrade to 64GB at any time.
- CPU: playfields with big bases and capital vessels lean on single-core speed. Our servers run on high-frequency CPUs, with CPU priority and clock boost available as upgrades.
- Location: ping decides how a dogfight feels. We run Empyrion servers in 19 locations across Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific (see Locations).
- Scenarios: a good host installs Workshop scenarios without manual file work. Ours does it from the Workshop ID in the control panel.
- Control and backups: full access to your config files, a File Manager and SFTP for your saves, and backups you can restore yourself. Every GTX Gaming server has daily automatic backups and the Backup Manager.
- Billing and refunds: monthly billing with no contract, no setup fee and a 24-hour money-back guarantee, so you can try an Empyrion dedicated server without risk.
Not sure which size fits your faction? Compare our builds under pricing, or ask our 24/7 support team to size your server with you.
