Quick answer
Valheim has eight bosses since the 1.0 release on 9 September 2026: Eikthyr, The Elder, Bonemass, Moder, Yagluth, The Queen, Fader and the new Deep North boss, Kall Fimbulbringer. The right weapon depends on the boss's weak damage type and on what you can craft at that stage. This guide gives the boss order, what you need to summon each one and which weapon types to lean on, and it flags what Iron Gate hasn't published.

Valheim boss order
You normally take the bosses in biome order, and each altar takes a specific offering. The offerings below come from community guides, because Iron Gate doesn't publish a boss table:
| 1 | Eikthyr | Meadows | 2 Deer Trophies |
| 2 | The Elder | Black Forest | 3 Ancient Seeds |
| 3 | Bonemass | Swamp | 10 Withered Bones |
| 4 | Moder | Mountains | 3 Dragon Eggs |
| 5 | Yagluth | Plains | 5 Fuling Totems |
| 6 | The Queen | Mistlands | The Sealbreaker (guides differ on the details, so check in game) |
| 7 | Fader | Ashlands | 3 Bells |
| 8 | Kall Fimbulbringer | Deep North | Not covered in the patch notes (see below) |

What 1.0 changed
The Valheim 1.0 patch notes on Steam add the Deep North biome, 40+ new weapons, four new armour sets, new shields and staffs, new bombs and ammunition, 10+ new creatures and, in the creature list, one new boss: Kall Fimbulbringer. The notes also list a grappling hook, a Jotun invasion event, and a "Forge of Potential" location where you take idols to upgrade items further.
For fighters, the big change is the weapon list. Three new weapon lines (Nord, Frostfire and Thunderblood) each come in twelve types: sword, greatsword, atgeir, mace, sledge, axe, greataxe, spear, dagger, knucklechains, bow and crossbow. There are also four new staffs (Echo Spike, Spirit Caller, Northern Vengeance and Lightning Strike) and new Bloodgold ammunition (arrow, bolt, missile and payload).
The notes don't say how Kall Fimbulbringer is summoned or fought, and community guides don't agree on the details yet, so we aren't repeating any of them. What the notes do list is a lead-in: an Intricate Key item, the Forge of Potential, the Mörkhalla dungeon and the Jotun invasion. If you're heading to the Deep North, read the patch notes, explore the biome and treat any single guide with care until Iron Gate documents the fight.
Which weapons to bring for each boss
Valheim damage comes in types: slash, pierce, blunt, fire, frost, lightning, poison and spirit. Bosses take extra from some and resist others, so check the type on a weapon before you pick it. The following comes from community guides that list boss weaknesses, and we only repeat what more than one source agrees on:
- Eikthyr: no listed weakness. He is an early fight, so any weapon you have works. A bow lets you stay clear of his lightning.
- The Elder: weak to fire. Fire arrows work well, and a ranged attack keeps you out of his root attacks.
- Bonemass: weak to blunt and resistant to slash and pierce, so bring a mace, club or sledge. Poison resistance mead is a good idea against the poison he and his blobs deal.
- Moder: reported weak to fire and immune to frost, so avoid frost damage. Bring frost resistance mead for her breath and a bow for when she takes to the air.
- Yagluth: guides list resistances to fire and pierce, so lean on slash or blunt damage in melee, and bring fire resistance mead for his attacks.
- The Queen: resists pierce, and her attacks are heavy, so lean on blunt or slash weapons and a shield you can block with.
- Fader: resists pierce and is immune to fire, so skip fire arrows and bring a strong slash or blunt weapon.
- Kall Fimbulbringer: one guide says he resists pierce, fire, frost and lightning and suggests blunt or slash weapons. Treat that as unconfirmed until Iron Gate publishes it.
For the stats of individual weapons, including upgrade costs, see our guide to choosing and upgrading weapons in Valheim. Weapons are rebalanced between updates (Call to Arms in 2025 changed combat, and 1.0 added a lot), so trust the item's tooltip over any list.
Before every boss fight
- Set a spawn point near the altar with a bed, so a death doesn't cost you a long run back.
- Eat three different foods for health and stamina, and use a resistance mead for the boss's damage type.
- Build a safe approach: a portal at the altar saves a lot of walking.
- Bring spare weapons, arrows and a shield or buckler.
- Agree a plan in multiplayer: who tanks, who shoots and who keeps the group fed and healed.
Boss fights in multiplayer
Valheim 1.0 stays a game for one to ten players, according to Iron Gate's 1.0 FAQ. A group makes bosses easier, since one player can hold the boss's attention while others shoot or hit it from behind. Players on a Valheim server can try a boss whenever the group is online, because the world and its progress stay put. If you have a save from before 1.0, the FAQ says it still works, though biome generation only applies to areas you haven't explored yet, and mods may take time to catch up with the update.
Valheim bosses FAQ
How many bosses are in Valheim?
Eight in 1.0: Eikthyr, The Elder, Bonemass, Moder, Yagluth, The Queen, Fader and Kall Fimbulbringer.
What order should I fight the bosses in?
Biome order: Meadows, Black Forest, Swamp, Mountains, Plains, Mistlands, Ashlands, then the Deep North. The gear needed for each biome rises, so going in order is the safe way.
Is Kall Fimbulbringer the final boss?
He is the boss of the Deep North, the last biome added in 1.0, but the patch notes don't call him a final boss, so we can't say.
What weapon is best against bosses?
Whichever one matches the boss's weakness and fits your gear tier. Use fire against The Elder, blunt against Bonemass and slash or blunt against bosses that resist pierce.
Do I need to start a new world for 1.0?
No. Existing saves still work, though Iron Gate says new biome content generates only in unexplored areas.
