Grab your ax and prepare to build, Vikings! The Valheim Hearth and Home update arrived on 16 September 2021, and it was packed with new items to craft and construct. This first major update added a whole bunch of new build pieces and furniture so you could make your longhouse the coziest place in the meadows.

You asked for more variety, and Iron Gate delivered. New Darkwood building pieces, such as shingle roofs, beams and decorations, provided fresh looks for all your construction needs, and new furniture ranged from sturdy shingle roofs to a mighty stone throne and a steamy viking hot tub. Show off your Viking hospitality by inviting your fellow adventurers over for a feast.

The update also added new types of stacks to show off your treasure and resources. And when you’re ready to venture out again, slimy new locations and creatures in the Plains gave you something to find out for yourself. The Hearth and Home update brought fresh life to your Viking abode and ensured many more hours of crafting, building, and exploring in the 10th world. Grab your mead and enjoy a cozy chapter in Valheim!

What is the Valheim Hearth and Home Update?

The Hearth and Home update brings cozy comforts to the Viking afterlife! This free content patch adds furniture, decorations, and home improvements so you can customize your longhouse like never before.

Say goodbye to drab, empty halls and hello to warm hearths, soft beds, and all the trappings of domestic bliss. Try out the new furniture, from a mighty stone throne to a steamy viking hot tub. Go wild rearranging to your heart’s content! A happy home means happy Vikings.

Freshen up your Valheim cooking situation with an oven for baking bread and pie, an iron cooking station for the bigger cuts of meat, and cauldron upgrades such as a spice rack, a butcher’s table and pots and pans. Cook tasty treats to boost your clan’s morale. Nothing brings people together like good food and good company!

Show off your haul with the new stacks for treasure and resources, and build a cartography table to share map data with the other vikings in your world. Build as big or small as you like.

Make the outside as inviting as the inside. New Birch and Oak seeds let you plant more types of trees, and you can finally give your tamed animals names. A well-kept steading shows you mean business.

Between the base building, crafting, cooking, and planting, Valheim got a whole lot cozier. The Hearth and Home update delivered a feast of features to make yourself at home in the afterlife. So stoke the fire, raise a horn of mead, and celebrate the simple comforts of hearth and home!

Valheim Hearth and Home Guide - New Building Pieces and Furniture

The Hearth and Home update brings loads of new building pieces and furniture options to make your Viking homestead cozier than ever.

The update added new Darkwood building pieces such as shingle roofs, beams and decorations, along with crystal walls. Mix and match to create rustic cabins, medieval cottages or anything in between!

New types of furniture made it into the game too, including a mighty stone throne and a steamy viking hot tub, so you can finally sit back and relax in your own hall.

Weapons were rebalanced and the blocking system was overhauled, with your maximum health now greatly affecting your ability to block attacks, so there was plenty to try out once your home was built.

New types of stacks let you show off your treasure and resources, and the new obliterator finally lets you destroy unwanted items.

With all these new additions, you'll be spending more time improving your home base. But that's half the fun in Valheim! Build yourself a cozy retreat, invite friends over for a feast, or just relax in your handcrafted home after a long day of adventure. The Hearth and Home update fuels creativity and community - that's what Valheim is all about. Start crafting your perfect Viking homestead today!

Everything You Need to Know About Valheim's New Seeds

The Hearth and Home update brought some exciting new seeds to plant in Valheim! Three new plantable seeds were added to the game: Birch, Oak and Onions. Here’s what you need to know.

Birch and Oak

Birch and Oak seeds let you plant more types of trees around your base.

Onions

Onions are the third new plantable seed in the update. Food was overhauled too: most food items now give mainly stamina or mainly health, and there are over 10 new things to eat (12 in all).

Cooking

The update also added an oven for baking bread and pie, and an iron cooking station, which is required to cook some types of meat. Your Vikings will get a morale boost from tasty, homegrown meals!

Between baking fresh bread, planting new trees and cooking up the new dishes, the Hearth and Home update let you provide for your Vikings in fun new ways. Channel your inner farmer and get those seeds in the ground! Your clan will be well-fed and happy. Skål!

Our Favorite Hearth and Home Base Building Tips and Tricks

The Hearth and Home update is packed with new building pieces to make your Valheim base cozier than ever! Here are our favorite tips and tricks for creating an ultra-comfy Viking homestead.

Go big with beams!

The new Darkwood beams open up so many design possibilities. Use the massive log poles for an open-concept great hall or timber-frame house. The beams are perfect for lofts, balconies and framing windows. Get creative with angles and arches for a unique look.

Add details with Darkwood and crystal

The new Darkwood decorations and crystal walls help bring your builds to life. Darkwood shingle roofs suit a Viking longhouse nicely, and crystal walls give your build a look all of its own.

Show it off!

The new stacks let you show off your treasure and resources, and the cartography table lets you share your map data with friends. Put them where visitors will see them first.

Get cooking!

The new oven and iron cooking station are perfect for roleplaying a Viking feast. Cook up tasty treats on your open hearth or bake bread in the oven. Arrange the stations together with tables and benches for an inviting kitchen and dining area. Your fellow Vikings will love gathering here!

The Hearth and Home update gives you so many options to design a cozy and creative base. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different styles and combinations. Your perfect Viking home is waiting to be built! Let the hearth fires burn bright in your corner of Valheim.
