Quick answer

Enshrouded doesn't have fixed classes. You build your role from a skill tree split into three trees (Warrior, Mage and Ranger), and you can mix them freely, so a group can cover tank, healer and damage roles without anyone locking in a choice at the start. The tree is about to change again: version 1.0 launches on 15 October 2026 and every character's skill tree will be reset. This guide explains how the tree works now, what each branch does and how to build a balanced multiplayer group.

Last updated 9 October 2026. Checked against Keen Games' news and Enshrouded's official wiki, before the 1.0 launch.

How Enshrouded classes work

The "classes" players talk about are branches of the skill tree. According to Enshrouded's official wiki, any player can go down any pathway, as long as the nodes are connected. Nothing stops you from taking Wizard skills and then walking into Warrior skills. Skill points come from three places:

  • Levelling up: 2 skill points per level.
  • Shroud Roots: 1 skill point each.
  • Elixir Wells: 3 skill points each.

You can only level up once from each Shroud Root and Elixir Well, even though the world respawns after a server restart.

The 12 skill branches and what they do

The wiki groups the branches under the three trees. The focus of each is below:

Warrior (melee) Warrior Melee damage with one-handed weapons
Tank Defence and protection, with shields
Barbarian High-damage two-handed weapons
Athlete Mobility and jump attacks
Mage (magic) Wizard Elemental damage spells
Battlemage Hybrid magic and melee, using wands
Healer Restoration and support
Trickster Magic-based crowd control
Ranger (ranged and survival) Ranger Bow and ranged damage and precision
Assassin Stealth and critical strikes, with daggers and bows
Beastmaster Animal control and poison resistance
Survivor Stamina and resource efficiency

There is also a Core Skills section for abilities that aren't tied to any branch, such as Lumberjack and Sneak Attack.

What changes at 1.0

Keen Games' news page gives the 1.0 release date as 15 October 2026. The studio's "1.0 Combat: changes and additions" announcement (23 September 2026) says that, because of new skills and changes to where existing skills sit in the tree, your skill tree has been reset. It also lists:

  • A maximum player level of 50 and maximum equipment level of 55.
  • Nine new mage spells, including Mana Drain, Entangle, Pillar of Flames, Blizzard and Ball Lightning, and 22 tier-7 "Eternal" spell versions that don't use up charges.
  • Wand heavy attacks that pierce several enemies and interrupt weaker ones, plus new aerial and evasion wand attacks.
  • For archers: Eternal Fire, Shock and Bone arrows, and new skills called Puncture, Barrage and Survival Instinct.
  • New enemy variants across all factions.

The practical advice: learn the branches above, but don't plan a 50-level build around one node. The tree will look different after 1.0, so check the layout when you first load a world after the update. The same thing happened with Update 8 in April 2026, when skill points were refunded after a tree rework.

Building a balanced group in multiplayer

Enshrouded is a co-op survival action RPG for up to 16 players. In a group, roles come from what people choose to spend their points on. A setup that works in most groups (our suggestion, not an official one):

  • One tank from the Tank branch, who holds enemies and protects builders and healers.
  • One healer from the Healer branch, to keep the group on its feet in tough fights and boss arenas.
  • Two or three damage dealers: a Ranger or Assassin for ranged and burst damage, and a Wizard or Barbarian for sustained damage.
  • A utility player (Trickster, Athlete or Survivor) to control crowds, move fast and keep the group supplied with stamina.

Because you can take skills from any branch, nobody is locked into a role. If your friends want a stable world to play in, a Enshrouded server from us keeps your world and everyone's progress online around the clock, so the group can drop in at any time.

If you're also building, see our guide to Enshrouded's voxel-based building.

Enshrouded classes FAQ

Does Enshrouded have classes?

Not in the usual sense. You pick skills from three trees (Warrior, Mage and Ranger), and the wiki says any pathway can be followed as long as the nodes connect.

What is the best class in Enshrouded?

There is no single best one. It depends on whether you fight at range, up close or in support, and a group does best when its members cover different jobs.

Can you change your build?

The studio reset skill trees and refunded points with Update 8, and has said it is resetting them again for 1.0. Between those events, check in game for the current respec options, since the rules may change with 1.0.

How many players can play together?

The game is listed as co-op for up to 16 players.

When does Enshrouded 1.0 launch?

Keen Games lists 15 October 2026 for PC and PlayStation 5.
